Surely we all look at life differently at different times. I think the positive here is that we have received new information about TheBeatlesGear.com. Yet another resource on the Internet. From humble beginnings many wonderful things emerge. I am again reminded that the forest would be silent if inhabited only by those birds that sang best. It seems to me what we have to share with one another is, at the end of the day, greater than the condition of any one instrument or index page. I vote we give those who join us the benefit of the doubt and a chance to share.

I agree Peter, people change from original strings, thats not a big deal.

Whao - 64 replies in less than 48 hours! I'm glad I kept out of this topic.

Suffice to say that Peter, the great guru of the RRF, has brought his usual sense of perspective and balance to the discussion.

If Peter was in the Diplomatic Corps, there might not be so many conflicts around the world right now!

Strings are a wearing part. Truss rod cover, pickguards, knobs.....are not.

There is no level of discussion or "reasoning" that will convince me that this shameful act isn't the most disrespectful thing to happen to that historic guitar in it's nearly 50-year history.

I was being facetious about the string thing, but you're not stupid you knew that. Anyway, I respect your opinion, I hope everyone respects, mine. There really isn't much more to be said about the Arden model, so...

Josh, Where is the 450 you picked up? Also where is the 1999RM and a possible Rocky strat, are they out of the picture, or did you sell them. This is a great early Beatles collection, just fantastic. Right now the picture off the website is my background on the computer.

But what's with the huge watermark and... copyright? Does anyone here have any idea what there is to be protected in a group photo of someone's guitar collection? If there is money to be made here, I don't get it. Why on earth would you pay money to see a C-series guitar that also happens to be hanging on the wall at Guitar Center?

Ivan, you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I think you might have raised a valid point about the guitar being enjoyed in some way.

Yet, I must say that the bottom line for me (an opinion to be sure) is that no matter what, the Arden 12 never was, and never will be George's 12.
Dressing it up a such and passing it off as a vintage 12 "just like George's" is as valid as just using a C63 and saying the same.
The Marsden 12 is closer to George's in more respects....
I would find it more palatable if it were "restored" to it's original spec and shown as the First Rick 12.

Sorry about the emotion here but this was a "Holy Grail" of a guitar for me and it has been used for a chamber pot.

Note, one of the 19 has chosen not to get involved in this discussion...a PM was sent to me.

There are a couple of folks who said that the new owners can do whatever they like with the guitar.

I didn't count those because they didn't say whether they liked the mods or not.

Upon reflection, I think I made comments that would have been better kept to myself.
As the saying goes , "If you don't have anything nice to say.....".
In fact, Ivan proved the better man than I in that his comments, though disagreed with, were positive, supportive and encouraging, rather than
negative and disparaging...
That is what I would hope to show this forum to be, so I will emphatically admit that some of my comments were beneath the level of what
proper etiquette would dictate.

And the bottom line is, it's Josh's guitar to do with as he sees fit. As he stated, the original parts are saved. The nut, well, if it was so worn then it was the right time to make that mod. That too can be reversed.
For cryin' out loud how many Ricky's that have been well played managed to keep their original nut after close to 50 years? A "player" of a guitar is more valuable in playing condition.

John we are passionate about our Rickenbackers and sometimes wear our hearts on our sleeves in this respect. I am glad we we all able to express our feelings in the moment. Emotions change and so do the thoughts and memories associated with them. Thanks for your comments and additional reflection. Genuineness always shines through.
