What are you talking about? Not only did I deliver it, I hung around and watched him lay down the track with it, specifically "From a Lover to a Friend". I don't know anything about "Axis".
I think you got the story backwards; he had been using the Hofner but was unhappy with the sound but had left the Rickenbacker back in England. He called to see if we had anything like it that was available and I had the one which had just been returned from the movie set. This was not a prototype of any kind but rather a clone made specifically for the movie.

I think I got the story I was told correct but they may have got it mixed up. It was more than 10 years ago after all. No offence meant.

wow! not only do you own the coolest guitar co in the world, but you get to deliver one of your creations to McCartney and get to watch him create on it. Sigh... Did you leave it with him, John?

I think I got the story I was told correct but they may have got it mixed up. It was more than 10 years ago after all. No offence meant.
The liner notes show that the Rick bass was played on Spinning on an Axis. Maybe he re-recorded From a Lover to a Friend later with the Hofner.
