Bach  in his day a lot of classical music was the popular music of the time.

Mitch,
I like what you say about 'mining' past models. John Hall seemed to disregard my questiuons about consumer's input (thats us) concerning future and vintage models and said we would be 'pleasantly surprised' about upcoming models. I love my RICS, but I still think that RIC's desire/conern to hear their customers is mediocre at best. My expectation is that being 'pleasantly surprised' will again be about colours, etc. but not about some models we would really like to see.

I think most of us here because of the British Invasion using that distinct Ric sound (Thank you Mr. Lennon & Harrison).
The tone of Rics were noticed by other musicians and were used in their music (Beach Boys, Byrds, CCR to name but a few).
I am very happy with the current Line up and enjoy a "Limited Signature" addition once in a while- Glen Frey still puzzles me?)

I would hope that RIC does not go to the $5000 plus Custom shop and Pawn Shop models.

I want things tomorrow but would rather see produce put out quality instruments rather than the 500,000+ a year of the competitors vast mass production. The value of our instruments are also related to limited production, availability, quality and unique sound of Rickenbacker.

I come to the board to chat with friends... some who I met, and some who are just a screen name that I have gotten to know over the years.

Just my 2 cents. Go ahead and flame...

We? More like an handfull of people (not including me...); hardly the market to justify going through all the trouble to resurrect a model! just my two eurocents

Concerning Electrostring's comment about 'we'. I think even a casual reading through Ricksource's post indicate that a fair number of readers would like to see certain colours, extras, and models revived. RIC has been producing vintage and limited edition guitars for years, so to revive older and classic models is already something they do. My point was that they do not seem to take into account what their customers would like to see. I am, however, happy to be corrected on this.

No, you are absolutely correct on this.

Given that we are a business, we take into account what our customers want to buy.

A case in point is the comment about Azureglo. We offered it for years but few bought it (ironically making it rare now, and possibly more desirable). But Midnite sells quite well, so why would we dump something that sells for something that didn't just because someone would like to see it?

Brilliant post. In the eyes of many consumers, product development and business management are very abstract concepts. There is also the cherished myth that one's own desires are broadly shared and hence representative of true demand. As a result, a lot of us lobby for new products (e.g. 4005 RI) or business practices (e.g. a custom shop) that in all probability make absolutely no sense from a business perspective. Of course, there are some of us who just like to stir the pot every now and then for the fun of it....

You can see my Azureglo. . . . :D I love my AZ blue, but people thought the color unusual in the day; most people bought JG or FG, and some Rick lovers back in the day didn't like mine becasue the AZ Blue was too modern-looking. . . . I also love MID, btw, but I'm out of room.

There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

The problem with midnight blue is that it can be mistaken with a Jetglo. At least I thought it was jetglo. Rickenbacker brought back Ruby which is great, but I still think rickenbacker should bring back azureglo. Mr. John hall, midnight is great but I bet buyers will be intrested in this color. Give it a try. Make at least 10 examples and you will see that it will sell. I for sure will buy one like a thunder.

Sooooooo coooool...... 8) Wow!

IMHO AZ is at its very best with the additional contrast of a white-bound top.

Ten will sell, no problem. So, what are we going to make after our morning coffee break?

I was never fond of Azureglo. Every once in a while I'll like it on a certain Rick, like the 360WB that Paulie posted a picture of. I prefer Midnight Blue (especially the newest version) over Azureglo any day.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Mr. John Hall, when do Rickenbacker expect to do something different with the 4003 and other models? I really want Rickenbacker to launch a different color. But I dont know what you have in mind. Can you give us a hint or something?
