Wow, Eric that has to be about as much variation as is possible between two Ric basses. Both are gorgious. I didn't like the 2030s at first but they have really grown on me. I was at a Social Distortion show a few months ago and the bass player (blanking on his name but he is always a great throbing presence in their songs) was playing something that I couldn't ID but it was like a longer and thinner 2030. Not a Ric but nice.

Erik, where did you get the custom paint job done? About how much did it cost? It is very cool!

I bought it that way for $500 from Guitar Villa in Bethlehem PA. The paint job is near perfect and the flames really sparkle under lights. I was told that it was done by a guy that customizes Harleys. At the time, the store also had an upright bass with red flames.

Wow.... I would say that you got a good deal. The reason I ask is because I am thinking about getting my 481 refinished, as the paint is peeling pretty badly on it.... though I probably wouldn't go for anything quite that radical.... I'm kind of thinking a solid almost-black eggplant purple (It is currently a rather banged-up jetglo).

I've been off the boards for a while. I'm back and... oh, so many new pics posted there ! Great pics, great basses.

I asked around my whole family to find out if someone had kept photos of me playing live back in 78 with my first 4001 JG. Unfortunately nobody seems to have any of these pics...
