There was a great article about Pat & the band in the Washington Post couple weeks back:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/11/AR2007011100644.html
Pat has been busy: a program director/host on XM, running for Senate, doing house concerts--sounds like a fun job!

Dan, he has indeed done all of these things, but they span a ten-year period!

Those guys are great. I drove into Houston a few years ago to see my wife's family and we heard on the radio that they were going to be in town. I told my wife that no matter what else was going on that night, I was going to the show. The guys were so down to earth and the playing was fantastic. I love the songwriting. Mike Mesaros is probably the most melodic bass player I have ever heard. I love Blood and Roses and Crazy Mixed Up Kid. A friend of mine who lives up north got a kick out of "White Castle Blues" I didn't really get the song because I have never eaten at a White Castle.

The Smithereens will be playing at Sunset Station in Henderson, Nevada on April 28, 2007. About a 10 min drive from my house.
If you want tickets, keep an eye on:
http://www.stationcasinos.com
because they don't use ticket *******.
We plan on being there...Hope they play some of the new CD!

Hadn't heard of them? Yikes! I hope you're getting to hear "Especially For You", "Green Thoughts" and "11", which are all chock full of awesome songs. As are the others, but I'd start with those.

I saw the Smithereens once...In the early 80's at a famous club in NYC called Folk City(think Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie). My band was on the bill with them...
Interesting trying to compare them with the Dbs. Might have to start another thread about that as it brings out a lot of thoughts in me..

Greg,
No offense intended by my comment. Better late than never. You're getting the benefit of a "fresh" listen, that I haven't had in a while. Enjoy!

Did anyone in the Phila area catch the live concert today at the U of P?
It was broad casted live on XPN. As I drove around (in gridlock traffic), in the ice storm today, it made good company.
