I can't seem to find the color chart on the website..

Surely (I know, don't call me shirley) the abbreviation BBR, to be somewhat consistent with other coding, has to be Blueburst. As in Mary Chapin-Carpenter Blueburst. This will be very unique if it is the case.

With midnite blue and blueboy in the mix already, I'd think RIC would go with something different than another variation of blue.

When do they announce this officially?

I hear you Scott but I am just trying to make sense out of the code. But when you consider this color it is certainly unique. The color will be announced for the NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA, USA which takes place January 20-23, 2005.

As for the blue tones maybe RIC can use up some of their existing color stock. It is just fun to speculate. Really it could be Burgundyburst, Brownburst, Bananaburst who knows. I have not seen the color of John Hall's car lately (Just kidding John!).

You have a point, that blueburst is pretty cool.

I wonder if this board's oft-expressed longing for blueburst has had an impact with RIC marketing. . . IF that's the COY, of course.

picture a 4003 with that color and a black pickguard and TRC....THAT would be excellent...Better yet, imagine a c64 in that color!!!!

If it is Blueburst (and I think it is), it is clearly the result of Melissa's constant and very vocal petition for such a colour! The big question now is "How many will she buy?"

Naturally, they will all look good, but what Ric models do you think will look especially nice in that colour? For some reason, I think the more modern Rics will benefit the most. The first model that jumped into my head was a 4004L.

Is it a Blueburst like a fireglo or is it a blueboy guitar with a fade overtop of that?

I cant tell from the picture, and am not familiar with her guitars...

I'm usually over on the bass forum, but I gotta chime in. I was in direct e-mail com with John Hall a few months back, and I suggested to him that the Montezuma Brown color should be retained as a standard color, not just color of the year(s). He mentioned that it was a difficult color to achieve. I countered questioning how much more difficult would it be than Fireglo -- afterall, the same pattern, but just different color. He answered that Fireglo was easier for the painters to do because "they" have had 40 years of experience with it. So he said they were looking forward to ending Monte Brown. I came back and suggested a blue burst, and he sent me the photo of MCC with her 600-series blue burst and said "Like this?" I said, yeah! But he said it would be just as difficult to produce blue burst as Monte.

So unless they've come up with a good way to do a blue burst that the painters can execute, I don't think they will go with that, unfortunately.

I, too, was thinking about a non-yellowing white with white trim and checker binding (absent from nearly all the 4003 line since 1973). Wouldn't that look great?

Montezuma Brown has been a tremendous colour, IMHO. Really gorgeous. I hope that it hasn't put the Ric paint shop off of doing bursts. They really suit the maple. Ric seems like the kind of company that will put up with trickier manufacturing processes for the sake of a more interesting or desirable product (within reason, of course). Checkerboard binding is the first example that comes to mind. It's expensive and tricky to do, but it still graces a number of Ric models.
