In one band I was in the sound man talked me into using two JBL scoops instead of my beloved SVT's so I tried them for a while (hated them) and one day the drummer wanted to try one on each side of his kit, they put them there one right behind each ear (days of roadies), by the end of the set he looked like a bomb had gone off next to him, get those things outta here, haha!

When I saw Humble Pie in '72, Greg Ridley had four Acoustic 360 amps, two on each side of Jerry Shirley's drum riser, and Steve Marriot and Peter Frampton each had three full Marshall stacks next to those! I have to say that was the most impressive backline I have ever seen.

I have seen pics, but I bet most of Simmon's cabinets aren't even being used! Personally I wouldn't waste my tech's time setting up a bunch of dummies. My band is working on a Holo-Stage so we can have the most awesome backline and it will weight virtually nothing. The emitters are almost finished.
Probably the craziest backline had to be the Grateful Dead's Wall Of Sound in the early '70s!

I saw Ten Years After and The Stooges in 1969 in a 1000 floor (no seats) club and they each had about 5 Marshalls and cabs and believe me they were all on, haha!

I wear an earplug in my right ear now if I play with a loud drummer, too many years of metal snares, my hearing is still suprisingly good considering but that ear is sensitive now to loud sounds like snare drums. I always end up on stage left for some reason.

Bob, how was that TYA concert? I saw them a few years later with Dr. John. Alvin Lee and the boys are still one of my all time favorites. Not to mention that Leo Lyons in IMO is an unsung bass great.

Greg Ridley! Great to hear his name again. Good bass player, good voice too. Always though his raspy voice was a nice compliment to Steve Marriott.
R.I.P. Greg....

Both bands were unbelievable, that was my first professional concert, I was 16 and was not really well aquainted with either bands' music. When Ten Years After came out, Alvin lee opened by himself with the lights down playing a simple blues riff and singing very quietly. The band came in about a chorus later and almost blew me out of my seat (3rd row). Very impressive, haha! I saw Alvin Lee again in the early 80's, his bands always rock, they were one of the best live bands I've ever seen.
The Stooges were also good I can still remember I wanna be Your Dog. The audience didn't know what to make of them, this was before Iggy's audience diving tricks, he was still pretty strange though hitting himself with the mic, pulling his skin off his chest etc. It's too bad they never caught on until 25 years after they has disintegrated.

I can't tell, are those S12Bs or S15Bs? I had a couple of S15Ds a few years ago. Very nice but to me they didn't have a very deep bottom end to them. I think I was expecting more than they are. Now I think I would appreciate them better tonally since my tastes have changed somewhat.
I have a PB250 which is very nice, currently being used with a Traynor YS-15.

Today, for the first time, I used my BRAND NEW Ric. 4003 through my Demeter HBP-1 Tube Bass Preamp, QSC PLX-3402 power amp, and into one of my Aguilar GS-212s'. WOW!!!! Now, the crowd, the musicians' waiting their turn to play, said the direct sound, from the Demeter to the house, sounded GREAT!!! I likes my new Ric!!! Thanks, Joey Vasco for all your motivation!!!!!
