Excellent job on all but, that ambered maple and spruce one is like the king of the pride...an acoustic's acoustic if you will. Love the grain on the back. So then, Ric acoutics, like Martins but unlike Taylors mellow with age?

I've heard, too, that Taylors "don't mellow with age", but haven't played any older ones to check the veracity of this rumor.

Any freshly-built acoustic is going to sound a bit "green" when compared with an older and much-loved and -played instrument of similar construction. My own ears tell me that Martins often sound "flabby" after a few decades, whereas Gibsons from the '60s have held up well, generally speaking.

These Rick acoustics begin to "mellow out" within a year or two. Because the wood is aged up here in the wine country (it's actually stored in a vineyard!) in near-perfect temperature and humidity conditions, these acoustics are full-sounding upon delivery. But I never expect them to get 'flabby" or lose their definition.

Paul, what would you say causes this loss of definition in the old Martins? And is it possible to "tighten up" a flabby old timer?
