I'm sorry to say 'tis Oz. Ever Changing Moods hit number 1. Numerous singles made the top 20. Long Hots Summer was played to death. I was kind of bewildered that Sound Affects, Setting Sons and The Gift were basically ignored down here but from day one the Style Council was on everyone's playlist.

I think a lot of it was down to Paul's change in attitude about promoting himself and his music outside of the UK.
Whilst with The Jam he really wasn't bothered, but with the Style Council they actually played more gigs abroad than in the UK. They also did a few tours/festivals in OZ too, which obviously helps. His music with the Council, certainly in the early days, was also more mainstream and 'radio friendly'.

Here's the answer to this question:
"the phrase I heard it through the grapevine had its genesis in what city and and place?
To be more specific, what exactly took place to provide us with the orginal meaning of the phrase?"
The city was New York. The Grapevine was a cafe where all the reporters used to meet up to swap stories and give little known details behind the headlines.
Hence the phrase "I heard it through the Grapevine".......

It might appear that way Evan but there are days when I can't immediately remember much of anything.................let alone recall facts that are interesting.

Human League. by the charts, they could do no wrong in the early '80s... what were we thinking? "Don't You Want Me" remains number 1 on my "Most Annoying Hits" chart.
