Groovy Beatles pictures
Re: Groovy Beatles pictures
As for the all know best comment, there is nothing that I can see from that clip where it is an inside joke. I think there is too much reading into it, in this case. I don't see any facial expression or inflection which would lead me to think that Lennon is being facetious here, especially in reference to Pete Best. There is no connection, IMO.

I tend to agree.
"Probably know best.... probably know it best"...
I think it was likely just more a comment about how many times they'd played the song.

Anyone wonder whatever happened to Kenny Brown? Bet he remembers very well playing with the Quarrymen.

So , why would he say it once, then look over to Paul, and say it again??apollo11 wrote:As for the all know best comment, there is nothing that I can see from that clip where it is an inside joke. Greg, I was going off of your original interpretation quoted above, which isn't accurate, IMO. Nowhere in there do I see and snigger and a wink, or the slightest hint of sarcasm. Besides, when he turns to face over to where Paul and George are, he repeats, "probably know it best."gregga41 wrote: He then turns to Paul, and, with a snigger, winks and nods at him, and repeats the line,..."We all know Best!" Clearly a dig at their former bandmate.

I might add, in a lot of Beatles' concerts you hear, Lennon & McCartney repeat many words they say, when talking to the audience, announcing songs, etc. Crowd noise probably played a role, along with the fact that monitors weren't used at the time.

When did the use of stage monitors begin?

HAaaaa... I think thats just about right. It's amazing that they were able to sing as well as they did with no monitors and such a primitive sound system.10 minutes after they stopped touring.
