Ron,
I have owned and played Ric's exclusivley for for over 30 years.

The nice thting about owning a Ric is I've honestly never had a notion to own other Bass. Now, owning other Ric's, that's another story , big time RAS, and even worse since meeting you bunch of ricividists

That pic is very Adam Clayton-esque to me...

It's definitely one of my favourites.. maybe a couple years old though. We were actually playing on a tug as it was travelling a canal. It was pretty cool, except watching the power conditioner, we could see the fluctuating electric service as it was supplied by the tug's engine. Scary.

I believe I said:
"EVERY GIGGING bassist"

So the fact that I myself gig with non-Ric basses means that I prove my own point. Image

Ditto - since much of the music from the classic era was recorded using Fender basses, they are what they are. Fenders have their short comings as do Rics. I however have general GAS and like them all. I agree with a comment made here a while back that a Ric can be made to "sound" like a P-bass and J's and P's lack tonal versatility. If I had to grab one to take, I would choose either my '77 4001 or my '91 P-deluxe (PJ) which are both heavily modified to suit my personal taste. You can keep either stock bridges, it's BAII for me. I know this is a touchy subject here, but that's what works for me. Variety is the spice of life and I don't need six colors of the same neck-thru, maple bodied, 4-string bass design. I do however love and continue to use the one I have.

I can't stand slapping on a 4001, hence my recent gear shuffle.

I agree with Mark… I won’t even cross my mind to slap on my 4001/3’s. Now nothing is more natural than slapping on my Cii. Actually, I usually only use a pick with my 4001/3’s. I will use any method with my Cii!

He was blinded by the light
Cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Mama always told me not to look into the sights of the sun
Oh but mama that's where the fun is

---Bruce Sprinsteen---

Me, I am not interested in going blind. Slapping faces instead of my Rick basses is more fun! Image
