Are we talking sellers of albums released in the 70's or sellers of albums in the decade spanning 1970-1979, regardless of release date?
I think the top 3 would be the Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac and Elton John. Maybe the Beatles, Stones or Zeppelin sneak in if the second criteria is used.
What they have in common is they all suck.

You win the prize and the song from Slade is correct. According to my sources they did disband unofficially in the 80's. The Reading festival appearance that Dave Hill turned down (because they were no longer a band) and had to be convinced to do by Chas Chandler, breathed new life into them for a while.

First criteria Greg, and you score two outa three! The top three, in order:

1. (Sir) Elton John
2. The Bee Gees
3. (Sir) Paul McCartney & Wings

And you're still right - they are all from the UK (with a sojourn in OZ for the Gibb boys). The British Invasion may have ended in the late '60s, but no-one told the Brits. The top five was rounded out by the Carpenters and the Jackson 5. Easy listening was obviously big back then!

"A Groovy Kind of Love" is a pop song written by Toni Wine and Carole Bayer Sager. It is heavily based on the Rondo movement of Sonatina in G major, op. 36 no. 5 by Muzio Clementi.

The song was released first by Diane & Annita in 1965. The same year, The Mindbenders released it as their debut single.

P.s how did your gig go?

I thought we played well & had good energy. The crowd kind of dwindled due to the hour. A friend told me today that all you could hear out front was bass. That didn't surprise me because the sound on stage was a mess, too. Oh well, no big deal.
