The headaches are "Cluster headaches"...well diagnosed. Actually I'm somewhat in between clusters and traditional migraines.
Clusters are so named due to the frequency the occur-they tend to come and go in "cycles". Very brutal, one-sided pain, but short lived (mine usually last about an hour or so)...but they also tend to wake your *** up in the middle of the night, and can happen several time a day.
I've been on several meds to try and prevent them, but the side effects were actually worse. I'm now at about 5 days without one, and keep careful notes, so I'm pretty sure this cycle is done...I'm expecting another one in late spring/early summer. After that, if they are like my previous episode I hopefully can say "adios" for about 10 years to them
I do wear glasses, and the last time I had an eye test the Doc said that I really didn't need a new script, the changes were so subtle. Those glasses are still working fine after about 4 years, so it seems my eyes haven't changed much in about 12 years...
I'm sure that'll not be that way forever, but for now the eyes are not the issue.
As for causes for clusters? No one really knows, but recent research seems to indicate that it has something to do with a malfunction of the hypothalmus-which controls your daily hormonal cycles. Many cluster sufferers have very regular bouts-i.e. they get the HA at the same time every day while in cycle. I don't have quite that regularity, and also suffer the occasional 8-14 hour HA (I call those migraines), and often will have slight residual pain between the more usual cluster attacks. Those are not typical cluster symptoms, but when I hear the beast knocking it's obvious that what I got is a form of them.
They suck, but they are not fatal (unless one gets psychologically weak and offs themselves-that's been known to happen, but fortunately I've never hurt that bad)...some people have to live with things like MS or diabetes, which I'd consider to be far worse.
Anyway, I appreciate the concern from y'all.
