Ted mentioned to me off-forum that he was feeling pressured by some indiviuals for his honest views on things. I always found Ted to be a informed and passionate collector and hope that I am wrong. His last and 2301st posting was July 28th. That's a lot of involvement and is on average, 4 postings per day, everyday for a year and a half. Either he is taking a break in August or was asked or felt pressured to leave. I hope this forum is about honest discussion on something we are all pasionate about and not just a Ric love covenant. Constructive discourse here will ultimately benefit all, including Rickenbacker Inc.
Sorry for the detour.

He wont be able to stay away for long. Its cool to be able to share your knowledge and learn at the same time about something you really enjoy, but on that same note we all need a break away from this topic, that we eat, sleep and drink.

Talked with Ted about two weeks ago. He's been away from the basses and the Forum with family concerns, and hopes to come back soon. He misses us, and he promises to come back (and to get back to work on my '72 one of these days).
He's not gone away mad.

How do these basses made with Ric parts play?

The one I made for myself plays much better than the '73 it was based on and that I've since sold. My neck profile is a little different since I used a different truss rod, so the neck is not as wide and flat as the '73 was. It is more of a soft V and a little beefier than a normal RIC neck, which I like better. It sounds just like a RIC, which is to be expected since I used RIC parts and made it just like a RIC, with the pickup spacing the same. The walnut instead of maple in the body makes a subtle difference, but its no more different than one RIC bass is to another. I made it mainly because of finances, and my '73 was REALLY in need of expensive, major repairs. In the future, I'll just buy a RIC, or make my own design.
