Try strumming "all my loving" like Lennon:..it's a killer!
Great Ric sounds in the Anthology recordings..have a listen to "leave my kitten". Luv it!
The Beatles and Rickenbackers;a match made in heaven!

Deep Purple - "Machine Head" (Well, for the bass, anyway).
If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.

Speaking of the Rick bass sound, here are a couple:
Renaissance: "Spare Some Love"
Andy Pratt: "Avenging Annie"

Btw, the awesome killer bass part on "Avenging Annie" was played by Abe Laborian, Sr., respected session bassist and father of Macca's drummer, Abe Laborian, Jr.

John-I don't make it down to North Carolina that much (I've only been through the state once in fact) but I definitely need to make it down into the US more for sessions. There's so much happening down there that I'd love to catch some folk sessions. There's a lot that's happening in this regard north of the border (just in the last ten years or so) but there's such an established tradition in the States that I need to get down there. I'm just afraid that if I make the leap, before I know it, I'll end up like Kerouac, on the hood of my car, somewhere in Mexico strung out on peyote. It's the natural temptation of any 21st century folk-singer.

I was also interested to read Jeffrey's response-Ric's on Supper's Ready? Really? Wow! That blows me away.

I've even seen them play it several times in the early days with Gabriel!
