No pick material yet.. I have the picks, but nothing to play. I'm learning more ways to play the "Free Will" solo. My dad is sposta send me some maiden, so I'll be stuck with fingers for a while.

Just to make you feel a little better, Nate, tonight I was working on La Villa Strangiato, got about 75% of it on the first pass, then the other pass to get all of the grace notes. Fun song to play! Image AND I played it with fingers, I usually use a pick and have been working on my finger playing...
Of course, I have been listening to it since it came out, so that made it a little easier...

YES! Very fun song! That solo still gives me problems! I can get most of it (with a little more) but some parts are still hard to get.

I still need to adjust the neck on my bass. I can't get some notes to ring out when I just hit them with my left hand. On other basses it sounds great.. on my 4001 it sounds empty, or the note doesn't ring out at all.

Now I'm all nervous. My ma heard me playing and singing 'Free Will' and 'YYZ' today.. she says she's gonna try and tape me without me knowing it. I'm all afraid now! Eeek!

Haha. I would do it if no ones around. Just so I could hear myself and give myself a fair judgement. Ill probly try to play and sing a couple times once I get my recording machine. Just so I can hear it all ya know?

Ehh. 7 hours of school+ 5 hours of band practice+ probly 2 hours of stuff I have to practice for Chip. Busy day. Its to bad that I cant replace the 7 hours of school with 7 hours of bass... That one would make me happy.

Pfft... Well.. It'd be a nice Christmas present!

When I meant tape.. both my mom and uncle would probably do video. So you guys could see me make funny faces, stick my tongue out (I've been doing that since I was a baby) and tilt my head to the side.. lol.

Haha. I just went back and practice that song a few times. It got me dancing. Nothing better then a dancing bassist right?

Yeah it would be a nice Xmas present. A ric, a recording machine, and hopefully some of these protective ear things. The good ones! They cant really be seen to much. And it levels everything to one volume for you. I need them just because of my guitarist. We are in a basement and he doesnt want to turn down a bit. So its horrible. Hurts your ears. And If you wear ear plugs you cant hear what we are talking about between playing.

Okay NATE! Sence we were stealing his thread. I figured Id bring this one back so we could talk about the JAZZ and RIC thing.

Geddy's Jazz bass sounds nothing like his Ric. So what are you talking about!

Oh Im working out plans for my own bass actually. I mean I dont know If Ill actually attempt to build a bass. But im working out the whole scale thing to try to get a better over all picture of how it works. I may try to dig more into all the other info too. Truss rods and Pickups and such. It be nice to know all the aspects of it and to maybe even build a couple prototypes to fool around with haha.

Apparently it does... most people were confused with his bass on Moving Pictures. Most thought it was the Rick until Geddy said the thing was all jazz, minus two songs. He gets it very close.

His J doesn't compare to his 'Exit... Stage Left' sound though.. that is just incredible.

I absolutely love his J bass sound on Different Stages. Amazing low end and the high end isn't complete ****. Although that bass sounds odd on songs that REQUIRE the Rick.. such as "Free Will" and "The Trees".
