If you do the cd in mp3 format then you can easily put everybodys material on it ... an mp3 cd can hold over 100 songs ...

What's the word on this ? Is this project dead in the water ? I'm all mixed up and ready to go.

Not dead, but stalled due to Tony's prior committments. I will be e-mailing him again, as I'd like to codify the "requirements" so that everyone is on the same page. That, and because I'm an anal-retentive scientist!

I e-mailed Tony earlier today. As soon as I get his input/edits, I will post an update, which will include addresses of whither to send submissions.

Is this going to be replicated in house or sent out for manufacturing? The reason I ask is because you will likely need clearances for every track on the CD if you are going to a replicator, since they don't want to be held liable for copyright infringement. This even includes clearance for samples.

I quote (with redaction) from one of Tony's previous posts:

My point was that if you are going to a commercial replicator, you will probably need documentation for each song on the album before they will press the discs. Since you are making CDRs, this likely isn't an issue.
You would also be responsible for the payment of mechanical royalties, unless they have been waived. It would be prudent to have each submitter sign some form of release, just in case.

Points well taken, Jeff. I think Tony has been through all of this before, so I'm pretty sure he will have it all in order and let us know ...
if he ever answers his e-mails!?!!

maybe the songs could be posted on a web site then everybody could download them ...

I think that would require compressed files, and we've already ruled out compressed format for the final form. (This is the reason I want to codify the requirements!) However, that is a good suggestion for samples of the final product.

OK, here are the "rules" for submittors:
Requirements:
1. A maximum of two songs (to offer a choice), are to be submitted on CD format, with .wav files (data file) preferred.
2. Songs must be original compositions for this first album; steer clear of cover songs.
3. The songs should be played primarily by Rickenbacker instruments; for a song with "just bass" as a Rickenbacker, a song should be chosen that features the bass, as in a bass solo, or a prominent bass line.
4. The songs should contain no vulgar language, or potentially offensive content within the lyrics.
5. Songs should be of a fairly decent standard of recording, (not too much hiss - no calling up the stairs that dinner's ready, etc.!) but not necessarily professionaly produced - recorded in the bedroom (or garage, basement ...!) is fine.
6. "Liner Notes" should be attached explaining instruments (and amps/mics) used & basic recording setup, as well as names of performers.
Submission:
Submit songs on CD to either Tony (who is located in the UK) or Gary (who is located in the USA) by standard post. Please send an e-mail to the mailbox in our profiles and we will reply with the shipping address.
Submissions should be received no later than August 5th, 2006, to be considered. Anything received after this time may be considered for a second volume, if there is one, or returned to sender, if that is agreed on.
Post-Submission:
After submission, Tony will do the following processing of the recording: semi-master the CD, trying to balance levels; apply EQ/enhancement/width etc.; and produce a quantity of CDR's. Tony will also produce artwork, which Peter will approve (we will also check with John Hall) & print it to a decent standard via computer.
Selling Price:
Tony has stated that the CDs will sell for what they cost him, basicaly, the item cost plus some ink & paper costs.

I will be reiterating the info above in a fresh thread so that it doesn't get buried. Any questions, please post them there (I should have it posted by midnight U.S. Pacific Time).
BTW if anyone sent me sound files (accessed through a link) via an IP address based in Thailand, let me know by real e-mail, otherwise I will assume it's mischief-makers in action ...

I would like to be included on this, I am doing a blues album of original material but it's going to be near the end of August I think. I guess that will be for a 2nd volume if there is one.
