And judging from the walnut headstock wings, most likely a '61 - 63 450. If those tuners have white buttons, it might've been a 420. Hard to tell whether the TRC is Gold or White.

Darren and John - thank you for the info! I wish the pics were clearer so it would be able to see more detail - they were digitized from 25 year old polaroid "peal" pics.
I just looked at another that was really dark but you can see the tuning buttons and they were very light against dark pants, so probably the white ones. Really wide looking neck.
Hey Mike - any relation to Pete Townsend?! Nice Bass!!

Brian & Gary, here's what happened to that bass:
John, as 70s bad as I look there, I still wish I had that hair! A little gel would help...
Can you believe I found this bill? If you can't read it, the bill says I sold it for $238 in 1974. It was with some old photos of me playing. I also found a photo of my old mint 1957 precision! I'll have you know I paid $500 for that! Big dough then..........

Ehhh, even though I still have a full head, hair is overrated. You have to groom it all the time. I wonder if my wife would go for me in a ponytail?!

$500 for the '57 - what year did you buy it?

I bought this in the San Fernando Valley (CA.)in 1970 with my old friend from Long Beach, Jeff Miles. We found it virtually under the bed - a true story! There was no vintage market then, so we agreed that $500 was a fair number for an 'old' bass as it couldn't possibly be worth as much as a new one. None of us had any idea what we were doing.....
This was the first time I ever saw a guitar stand.

Oh boy Mike I am sorry we asked about that bass. When I think about the things I let slip through my grasp, I just shake my head.
On the subject of hair I am almost envious of those in our age bracket with lots of hair. However, in my case if I had a full head of hair I would be short, fat and hairy. That sounds almost as bad as short fat and (going) bald. Talk about three strikes and yer out.
Sorry if I touched on any sensitive issues there guys. LOL

Me in January 1976, 196? Hofner bass, Marshall 100 Super Bass amp (recently re-united with it) and a brand new cabinet just bought from Bell Accordians (£10 down & £1 a week for two years). Ahh, good old HP!

I've just been reminded by "her indoors" that we still have those curtains 30 years and three house moves later! Well, why replace them if they still work? Anyway the Marshall is worth a lot more now than it was then, maybe the curtains are too! She wasn't impressed with my answers.
I only look about 12, but had been married for two years when that was taken.
