Just a thought. What if someone married a 3001 neck (there was one on eBay not long ago, I think one of us has it) and a 325 body, and made the necessary mods to turn it into a bass. Would that be OK?

I think so. That would be something made from all RIC parts so I think it would be okay.
Would it be okay if someone took that same 3001 bolt-on neck with its Rick TRC and fitted it to a Gibson Thunderbird body?(a secret evil plan of mine, now revealed!)

IMHO, yes, though I might be way off the mark. A 3001 neck is a 3001 neck and I guess that includes TRC.
When John Entwistle had his Fenderbirds made up should have removed the Fender decal from the headstock?
These bolt on ideas might be a grey area.

The Fenderbird was a clear marriage of different parts.
Re-assembling genuine Ric parts in a completely different configuration would be up to the owner.
You couldn't pass it off as a Ric design, but you could as your own adaptation.
The Epstein bass is sadly non-Ric, hence the big issue.

I once witnessed an argument in a pub where someone swore blind that the number 5 was an even number. There wasn't any debate here, however stylishly done, robbery is robbery.

And there's nothing as stubborn as the conviction of inebriation...
5 is prime...

Ian, my reference to the Fenderbird was because Jeff was thinking of a Ric neck on a T Bird body making a Rickenbirder..?

I can tell you 100% for sure that 5 is definitely an even number. I may not have actually gone to math classes or passed tests that demonstrate knowledge and understanding, but I REALLY know what I'm talking about here. One time I paid for a beer in a bar, and it cost five bucks. After I paid the five bucks, the bartender and I were even. So that must mean 5 is an even number.
There is no need for me to pay attention to the laws of physics and mathematics and science. They don't apply to me, because I don't want them to. And let's not forget: ignorance of the law is the best excuse. I mean, I'm just calling 5 an even number. It's not like I'm calling 5, 7, 9, and 15 even numbers. That would clearly violate the laws of mathematics, because it's more than one. I'm just calling 5 an even number, so it's perfectly alright, and don't worry, you can trust my completely uninformed opinion. Boy, I'm glad I was finally able to settle this dispute!
SO THERE!!!

I've seen people pull off this kind of argument for real in other issues, and they often win through sheer tenacity and force of will. Usually happens during election years.

Jason, did ever see the episode of the Abbott Costello TV show where Lou Costello shows Mr. Fields, his landlord, how 13 x 7 = 21 ?

I really shouldn't, but I just came upon a brilliant proof that 5 really is even, when applied to basses.
See, a bass comes in 4 string, 5 string, 6 string, etc., but the first, or PRIMARY unit, is the 4 string, so this gives
b4=1
Thus, without another thought, it is obvious that a 5 string gives
b5=2
ergo, the 5 string bass is even. And so is a 7.
But 6 and 8 strings are odd.
Now, dig this
b4 + g6 = 4080
