Mink should have been the 2007 COY!
I remember that Paul. Billy's face looked like: "What the hell?" and he started twisting the heck out of those tuners!
I've seen both of the above basses in person. I am a perfectionist and I have very good eyesight. And I have to say...if some vintage guitar dealer were offering either one of those re-fins for less than half the value of a beat-up original finish bass...I'd say "SOLD!!" so loud he'd soil his pants!

Fat chance. He'd buy it at half price, call it a "factory custom, unplayed, mint", and soak you bigtime.
But, of course, Paul would never sell, so it's all a fable...

Heh, have I got a deal for you!! Offerring up a one-of-a-kind 1955 OrganGlo kidney, with checkered binding, all-original factory finish intact. Mild belt-rash of course. Always been kept in a warm environment, so no finish checking. Low mileage, just a few beer-bashes in college.
Yes, I am very attached to it, as it has been close to me all my life. However, I have got a spare, so I would consider parting with it for something like this...

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and sit in with the band whenever you can, to keep your chops up!
I think my Mom told me once that it was definitely an option that year that anyone could order.
Hey, I live and breathe this stuff! Just goes to show the degree to which I was born to be matched up someday with my now dearly departed KC012 Rickenbacker.
But seriously, Kevin, from now on, my passion will be in replacing her with another 21-fret 4001. Yes, even though she was born early in the first week of March 1971, I have verified through photos that she was one of the very last 21-fretters made, some weeks after everyone else thought there were no more being made.

Sergio is SUCH a tease! Way to rub it in, "playing it as" he "writes this post" indeed!
Seriously though, isn't that just the clearest maple showing through the center of the FireGlo? Nice pattern, looks like the choicer figured stuff they usually reserve for the clear MapleGlo.
Someday, Sergio, she will grow tired and leave you, and I will then have my chance, hehehe!
