WOW - well, mine isn't, because it is a 1966 4005 WB. Those are all 400x bodies....

Here is a photo that Dale just sent me yesterday, so it is in the same shop right now that all those others are in (isn't it gorgeous now? ):

This Bass had MAJOR surgery..but now it's healthy and just longing to be played.

Nice work, Dale, and great looking maple! I just love when they are done seeing the transition pics from old to new.

What was the MAJOR surgery on that 4005WB?

? I knew Ed said the fingerboard had cosmetic cracks and had to be refinished and refretted, and the binding had been stuck back on in a couple places with cyanoacrylate, and there was a loose cross-brace that you glued back on, but Ed never disclosed that it had Major surgery or had to be taken apart and rebuilt. He said that no wood was replaced, all the original stuff was there and there were just some loose bits that you glued back together and then sanded and painted MG CV onto a bass that had always been original MG....

Here's a list of work: Body Binding loose and reglued with instant glue, All binding had to be replaced, neck/fingerboard/walnut glue joins repaired,fingerboard cracked from 1st thru 5th frets,2 inlays cracked, neck pulled up with 2inch action at 20th fret, crack in neck heel, pull and reset neck, back glue join separated, top middle maple laminate separated from end of neck to bridge pickup, repair/reglue numerous separations in top and back, repair broken/loose top brace, R tailpiece cracked(silver solder and rechrome) rechrome pickup covers due to pitting/corrosion, refret, and refinish Mapleglo. Now this Bass looks Factory restored with that glass like finish....

I suppose Dale could be refering (or is that reefering )to the V63!

WOW - well done, Dr. Fortune!! That is quite a laundry list, and after all that it really does sound like the best of both worlds - all original hardware and wood, but made brand new again by a master Rickenbacker factory veteran and his excellent craftsmanship!!

no reefer madness here....that was a list if the work done on Elys 4005. The Bass was factory Mapleglo, and the decision was made by Edgar(the 1st owner) to do a BlueBurst, so I left the patina on the Maple so as not to disturb any of the original wood since the BB would cover all the repair work. It still looks very nice considering what the Bass had been thru. It was probably subjected to heat and moisture to cause the many problems it had.
