After 25 years of playing off and on 24 fret necks I can honestly say there is no music to be made in those last three frets. Some of the best music of the 20th century was performed on 21 fret RIC's. Those famous who later played 24 fret RIC's never used the last 3 frets.

The 21 fret necks sound (and look) better with the neck pickup sitting where the three frets currently are.

Thinner clear coat, at least on the fretboard itself, would also be nice. If the clear is sprayed any thicker RIC's will be fretless. lol

I must say, the smaller headstock has an appeal that I was unaware of. I think it's good, as long as the tuners are still modern. Of course, all three of my Rics sport the Gumpy paddle, which now, suddenly seems unfortunate.

I think many of us would like to see a 21-fret, toaster-equipped semi-hollow introduced back into the line (other than the 381). If they made the 330 and/or 360 available this way, for example, in both 6 and 12-string versions, I'm sure all of us would buy one or two of them.

BTW, the 350v63 already had a gorgeous smallish vintage-style headstock before this change was implemented, as well as toasters (sorry, vintage-style pickups) and 21 frets.

That's the funniest thing I heard all day. Thanks.

I was over in the Bass section the other day, bombastically blabbering about bulbous headstocks, and I want to apologize blatantly to Mr. Hall for my buffonery. But I'm wondering if the headstocks of the basses will also get this treatment?

Has anybody yet seen a 330 with a slimmed headstock? I've been searching and so far I've only seen it on 360's and 620's.

And has anybody yet seen a new 12-string headstock (if they exist, that is)?

Hi Chris...There was one at MARF II, a FG 360/12 owned by Don Cooksey, pretty sweet.

BTW, can you drop me an e-mail Chris? I need to speak with you off the board when you get a sec, thanks.

Don's 360 DCM also sported the thinner headstock.

Chris, check out guitarrez.com. They have a 620 in stock with the new slender headstock & evidently just sold their 330 with the same. AFAIK the headstocks are identical.
