I picked up the Fish Out of Water remastered version. It sounds GREAT!
You gotta' love the track by track interview. I too, am a BIGTIME Squire fan.
I used to have a Yes cover band and can pull off a pretty good Chris!
Of course, it helps to have that CS limited! It just makes the sound that much closer
to the origional. Sometime this year I will be videotaping some examples of my playing.
I hope to post some of them. Since I can't find ANY musicians to be in a band with
where I live, I figure that I shouldn't let 26 years of playing just rot.

Thomas,a CS limited or any 4001,I don't see a big diff. between the 4001 and the 4001 V63,only diff is the CS sounds louder,and I don't know WHY
CS horseshoe sounds louder than the 4001 v63 horseshoe,I should ask at the main forum,but if you use rotosound strings,you can get the same sound on both.

If you wanna have fun check my domestic version of the fish the wha wha is a lexicon mpx g2,"auto wha wha" mode, + 4 bass tracks
I have used a Midi file for drums and choirs,the rest is PURE rickenbacker,hyper metallic.

Fabian, here is a quick impromtu version that Mark Walker, John Simmons and I did at MARF II, just a bit of jamming really. I hadn't played The Fish for over 30 years when we did this! I was better at it back then.

Man that's a Rickenbacker orchestra! but I see a Rick at the left,with the pickguard upside down (?)
it doesn't look lefty to me,(besides the one at the right side of the video)

I'll like to make a huge "FISH" a kind of "Orca" with the members of the forum and send it to Chris!,can you inmagine?!
I got the drums from a Midi,and the choirs,hey..is a nice idea

ps. I'm waiting the "brassmaster" clone from the U.S, "aka" Malekko B-assmaster" to mix the 2 Rick channels on the V64 and see how it sounds

Hey, thanks Fabian! I can certainly send you a link to a clip or two of me playing this bass, but the sound is far-removed from "Squireized". It's got old flats on it and the toaster hasn't been hooked up for about a year! It gets a great McCartney "thump".

The book and Chris' next solo album should be out sometime in the next ten years or so.

Was the Sunn Coliseum Lead modified in any way for bass, or stock off the shelf?

I just recently discovered this thread and it must be one of the most interesting and enjoyable ones i've ever read. Thanks for all the information.

If I may ask a few questions.

Is this picture available in a higher resolution. I know these settings won't give you an instant Squire sound, but I'm just curious.



What would be the best poor mans choice if it comes to amplification to get close to the Squire tone? I'm in the market for a new amp.
I'm thinking of either a:
-Marshall JCM 800 Super Bass amp (1992 model) (probably has a totally different circuit than Squire's Marshall amps).
or:
-a decent solid state amp with a vt deluxe pedal
or:
-Stereo: 2 simple solid state amps with one of them having a Tech21 Liverpool (vox emulation) and the other one having a Tech21 British or VT.
