Pete--these issues of checking only arise in the reverse of your hypothetical situation, when the bass is thoroughly chilled to its wooden core, and it suddenly is exposed to much warmer air, causing the surface wood to expand faster than the paint and varnish.

This issue with the club in Preston was a humidity thing--your bass was raining. It net from a cool environment to a warmer room with high humidity, so you got Bass Dew. Same effect as a glass filled with icy beverage in any warm situation. And the temp differential was not drastic or sudden enough to cause finish problems. As far as affecting the wood itself, you need long term exposure or short term flood immersion. Literally.

Pete, you'll have to let me know next time you're playing Preston (as long as it's not in the next 2 months as I'm skint again )

The new arrival has even more damage than expected and certainly more than pictured/told in the ebay add so I'm not too happy about it. (Maybe I should have known though but I just couldnt resist an FL in MID/BT of which I allready have a fretted one and which is my favorite color.)

The 4003 JG has been replaced by a 4001c64 JG and a 4003 MID/BT.

The 4003 MID/BT/FL and my NS Wav and my Klira 162-3 and maybe my Ashbory and posibly even my Warwick SS I FL although that one will become for sale soon.

I really like that combination of two Jetglo's and two Mapleglo's.

I never thought of it that way but had a look in the register. And I do not see big accumulations of Ricks in 1 city. So as far as the RRF Register is concerned you could be right.

The two colors are really that different though there are flash artifacts. One is more purplish, and the other is hardly photograpable because it's like a chameleon in different lights. More pictures of the first one here

Ah, yes, I remember those pictures from when you got that one. Let us all know when you get pictures like that of the new one.

I always felt that the early Midnight Blue Ricks lived up the description of the color. My favorite out of all of the versions.

The bass arrived yesterday. I opened the box to find an unplayable bass. I examined it a litle more and saw far more scratches than could be seen on your pictures or where told in the ebay Add. An example is attached, and I do see a whole lot more on the back of the bass.
Reason it was unplayable was the bridge pickup which was set soo high that strings touched it. I took my screwdriver to adjust this. When playing it after adjusting my mood got even worse as I heard a terrible rattle. There are 2 iron bars inside the neck of a Rickenbacker. And that's what I hear rattling. Furthermore the bass has serious tail lift (this is the part where the strings go inside the bass). I enclosed a picture of that too. The mute is missing.
Inside a Rickenbacker bass is a string mute. And on this bass there's only a hole. Furthermore one pickup is not functioning.

So:

- far more cracks than visible in pictures/where told in ebay add/mails
- trussrods rattle
- Major Tail lift
- Bridge pickup not working
- mute + screws missing

Can you understand I'm not happy? I wasn't expecting a "like new" bass but this is a big disappointment.

I was disappointed to read that you are not pleased with the bass at all. I sincerely wish that you had asked for more specific photos as well as asked more questions requesting specific information about the various parts. While I am not a musician myself I would have been happy to lcoate answers for you. I have reviewed my description several times - and in it I very clearly make no claims as to playability, "like new condition", or any other descriptors as toappearance or function. I also sepcifically stated that any and all questions should be asked beforehand since I do not do refunds.
Again, I am very sorry you are not pleased with the bass...

Is it my duty as a buyer to make sure things are not defective?

First thing he does is try to cover his a%$...jerk. I just don't understand why people do this...
