FWIW, your course of action is probably the best under the circumstances. That M-30 probably has quite a history to it that we will never know. Good luck with the auction! :)

Thank you for the welcome, Gary.
This amp, even in such tough shape, is unbelievably cool.
However, I am in no position technically to make use of these parts at this time.

I am setting out on my first diy amp build since I got hooked up with this most valiant crew: http://www.vacuumtubecollective.com/
One day, perhaps I will be able to restore/rebuild a classic like this (not that I'll likely ever see one of these again!).
Maybe somewhere, someone has a tape delay board, speaker, and a back panel just waiting to find their mates!
