I'm Arts and Entertainment reporter for Israel Channel 2 News. McCartney is playing a concert in Tel Aviv on Sept. 25.
And I thought you were JUST a rock and roller!

(just kidding!)

Thanks guys!
We were given 10 minutes for the interview, and we wanted to cover several topics. If I had unlimited time with McCartney, and could ask whatever I personally want, I'd start by asking about his evolution as a bass player. But that is something that not all Channel 2 News viewers are interested in...

I thought you asked very insightful questions. Given more time, I would also have asked how he works out singing and playing together.

I think that McCartney is right. The Hofner(or in my case the Brice), bass does change the way you play a little. I tend to play a little more busier on the Brice, more guitar like riffs, than I do on my Ricks. To me, a lot of it has to do with the tighter string spacing, the angle of the strings(like a Les Paul guitar), and the lighter weight of the bass. As well as the use of a heavy pick. It just feels more like a guitar than a bass to me when I strap it on.

I wonder if McCartney, when he bought Bill Black's upright, felt what I felt when I held his Hofner.
Maybe that's another reason he likes the Hofner - because it's shaped like a tiny upright.

Ilan - I can't imagine what that was like.

I was in the TV business for years and that capped anyone I ever met. Essentially a one on one - Damn! Good for you!

Thanks Mike...
The Tel Aviv concert is tomorrow and I have backstage pass!
Not that it's on the same level (and no Ric content...) but if all goes well then next week I'm going to meet Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten and Marcus Miller... This is like a dream job sometimes.

Shari and I saw the first night of their first tour together, at Cain Park in Cleveland Heights. CP is only about 8/10 of a mile from us and has a lot of great musicians there during their Summer series at Evans Amphitheatre. For me the highlight was seeing and hearing Marcus as I have seen both Stanley and Victor a few times in the past but never MM.

Enjoy the show!

Thanks Jeffrey.
I'm going to bring a bass with me and ask them to teach me something, on camera. Who knows, this might work. We're known for the Chutzpah.
Problem is, I suck at slap.

Personally, I would ask Marcus for lessons, he is known for his tasteful slapping, unlike some other bassists you will be meeting that night!

I'm really happy for you, Ilan. I think you deserve the breaks you're getting.
