Everyone's seen the front of my '82 4001S plenty of times, but here's the back, which you'll only see if you come to a show where my wife's in the audience.

I always thought it would have a FG back. Learn something new every day. Very nice little homage to your wife, too!

Looks like an early '90's, Pete!

Nah..it was originally MG, I had to do a FG on the front before I splattered paint all over it.

Someday, when the band breaks up(we're in our 20th year), I'm gonna have it professionally painted white.

I have a question. A few years ago RIC made a small batch of RM1999 repro's for the Japanese market. Were these built with the thicker fingergboard as well?

I
think they're pretty much the same spec as a C64 (that's what Japanese dealer Ikebe claims), apart from the "normal" headstock and the tug-bar.

My MG V63 has what appears to be a thicker fretboard that goes nearly down to the body face. I never noticed it when I first got the bass back in 2004 because I didn't have another one to compare to, but it seems much thicker than any other modern bass I've seen.
Here's a poor picture of my old '92 FG V for comparison.
The maple showing on the bottom doesn't look much different, but you can also see the difference in how far the fret tangs extend into the board. On the FG they go nearly half way through.

My '98 4001V63 is like Kevin's, with the thick fingerboard almost down to the body.

I don't know about the Japanese market basses but my American market one is more like Kevin's FG than his MG.

Does the V63 have a Vermillion board, or is it just the light.

Sean,
I honestly don't know. I've never seen a CS in person to compare it to, but it is different than any other Rick board that I know of.

Kevin, a friend has a CS and I have been drooling over it recently, the board is very similar to yours.
