I would have to agree with you on G&L being underrated. They are a real sleeper brand!

It's a G&L Comanche, not a Fender Strat. The split pickups are killer, brah. Go play one. You will hear how good their sonic, tonal, and resonant qualities are, really. The upper part of the split configuration picks up the E-A-D strings and the lower part the G-B-E strings.

From the G&L website (review section for the Comanche): "Aside from the split design, the Comanche pickups echo those of G&L’s ASAT –-- wide-aperture single-coils that are louder and fatter than Strat pickups. The Z pickups’ separated-coil configuration enhances the highs and lows, and because the two coils are wound in opposite directions, each pickup is humbucking. It’s a great recipe." Leo Fender and former Fender design guru George Fullerton created this idea. They knew a thing or two when they started G&L Guitars in 1979. Noted Hollywood luthier Dave Neely, who I trust implicitly, is adamant when he says FMIC can't touch G&L today with regards to component selection/build quality at an attractive price point. I agree. But hey, different strokes for different folks. Whatever floats the next person's boat is cool with me. It's all copacetic. Late.....Goofyfoot.

Hmm- maybe they should have gone for the proper split-pickup like on Fender Electric XII, but then again, they're probably copyrighted too.
