Model of the Week Eight: The 3000 and 3001

whoa-never seen a blue one-that's beautiful. still not a bad price at $600,either. i did play a 3001 once,it had a great sound,but i didn't care for the weight or bulbous body shape,as compared to the 4000 series.the 3000 looks like it might be a pretty nice alternative....

The 3001 is a heavy sucker, for sure. But a great neck, and a great sound.

Back to earlier posts by StoneRose about having trouble tuning the open E string on the 3000 (short-scale): (1) this is trickier, in my experience, with short-scale basses in general, and I tend to tune on the 5th fret. (2) You may have a bad nut slot - check it out.

My 3000 (and sold 3000 and 3001) aren't that heavy.

Talkin 'bout blue basses: My sold black 3001 was blue in UV light.

Tuning problems: I also said it before so a +1 to the poster above me: Shortscales all have some difficulties with tuning the E. Sometimes I just tune it by ear to my A.

Bathroom scale method, the 3001 is 10 lbs. About 2 lbs. heavier than the 4001. (I need a better method.)

I just had a closer look at the nut and the E string does appear to have a miniscule amount of movement in the slot. Could be time for a new nut

Have you ever seen a jetglo 3001? I saw one on harmony central forum

and asked if it is original finish. The seller replied "yes it is original" what do you think about it. I am interested in it. What do you think for the asking price etc.?

I used to have a Jetglo 3001. It turned blue under UV light!

A friend of mine had an Autumnglo 3001 with a black guard and a Jetglo with a white guard. He changed guards. He kept his whitegueard Autumnglo (a very pretty bass!) and I bought the all black one. I sold it a couple of years ago and now it's for sale in Belgium (I'm from Holland).

So there are more Jetglo 3001s. This one's pretty too!

I've also seen JG's. The one in your link looks very nice! I'm a little suspicious of the originality of the finish though as the photo of the back appears to have quite a bit of orange peel.

$1050.00 is a little bit high for that bass. I don't mind the brass nut, but the original truss rod cover is gone(it would have said Model 3001 above where it says Made In USA), and it's got a couple extra strap peg holes on the lower bout. Does it even have the original case?
