I've got a pair of '87 4003's that would beg to differ, Joshua!cassius987 wrote:And 4003s are better than ever at this time.
Have you ever played a late 80's 4003? The necks and tone are to die for!

Re: VOTE!
Hey, Fellow- Ric Fans-
Brief checkin before I REALLY gotta start getting into the sad world of WORK-headed for NAMM, and I hope to see some of you in Hall D Booth 3090, ONORI Acessories.
Been a wild week- MG 4004 Laredo arrives, blows mind ; Join RR Forum; meet Forumites; Order FG 4003-
to be continued...
The Rickenbacker afficianado, and I'm down with the Bass guitar end, nonewithstanding-
Is a cut above the rest of the Bass Guitar Mass at large.
It's apparent here. Not to diss anything else; I have 7 other wondeful non-Ric basses, but I've noted an intelligence and receptivity and eloquence here that has something to do with the atraction to the RIc Bass thing.
OK- I'll STFU before I open a Pandora's Box-
When I get back from NAMM, and wait for the truck to bring the 4003- I'm gonna have a plethora of comments and questions, as well as offer/solicit fedback on what the deal is between these (2) models- Feel, playability, tone- It's really gonna be interesting and very enjoyable.
Just played some Tower of Power on the Laredo thru my SVT-3PRO and Classic Cabs, a SVT-15E below a now-discontinued SVT-48HE, (4x8 w/horn)- HOLY MOLE, what a killer sound, and it helps that my Ric OEM strings are wiped out because I've been laying in to the bass so much in the last week- Yeah, they're dead allright, but to a point that makes 'em cool for a old-school R&B THUMP- to a point.
Man, I'm going to dial in that 4003 and see wassup.. I can't wait.
On a more real note, and not to be my own or anybody else's buzz-kill-
One reason I occupy this Forum is it eases my troubled mind-
I'm "caretaker" now to my remarkable Dad- He turned 97 a few weeks ago-
As lucid as can be, but no longer able to walk, etc. He's a War hero for real, among other things, told General Patton to "Go
"F*** Yourself" lotsa medals, thinks I'm a wastrel for playing the bass (naah, he knows..)
Well, he's on the last leg of his journey, and I gotta see that his needs are met, so it's something.
Whole subject, don't need/wanna go there on here, this is about the BASS! Yippee!
So sorry for that.
Just wanted to say, that besides the awesome Laredo, and I mean that Bass kicks so much *** it' should be arrested and given counseling, and now ordering a 4003-
You guys are waay cool to "talk" with and listen to, so Thanks.
It really helps.
SHOWTIME! Gotta get away from the 'net for a couple days.
Catch you L8'er.

That it is, Ken. Seemed like a good idea at the time as it was my first 4003S and without the big triangles on the fretboard, I thought it had a bit of a pearl deficiency!espidog wrote:Oh Lordy that's lovely!
