That would be nice. :)

When I graduate, I hope to finally purchase my first Rickenbacker.

Just 3 more months... would be nice to check out that marketplace I've been curious about it

Just a few posts and you're there! Shouldn't take long at all.

even as a new member, I believe that having a minimum number of (assumedly quality) posts will be good for all involved. As stated earlier, there are places dedicated to guitar commerce (ebay, thegearpage.net, etc) but this forum is a community.

Having participated fairly heavily in another forum (offsetguitars.com -> a great place if you like fender jazzmasters, jaguars, etc), their minimum requirement before entering their marketplace section has two beneficial functions: 1. it kept it from being flooded by ads from people looking to unload random stuff (or worse) and 2. there was a certain level of trust associated with someone participating in the forum. As a potential buyer, you could read through the seller's posts and decide whether this would be a good person to do business with.

A third effect was that more people participated in the forums. Some didn't make it to the minimum (50) and it was probably for the best.

Hi Geoffrey,

Your assessment is precisely why we established a minimum number of posts (30 is the magic number) in order to gain access to the marketplace. Thanks for your quality post and for demonstrating that you understand the reason for the rule. It is refreshing to see that as a relatively new member, that you also believe that the rule is a positive attribute to the forum in general.

Hey, Geoffrey! I just joined offset-guitars.com, a couple of weeks ago. Very nice site with tons of info and some real good people, too.

Welcome to the RRF!

Brian, you're very welcome. Good forums should try to nurture their successes and core philosophies whenever possible. Cordiality, community, and helpfulness are especially important. 30 posts is far from a draconian measure.

Paul, I'm glad you like the other forum. It is a great resource for the "offset-waist" guitars and has a host of helpful people if you ever have any technical questions.

Has the 30-post hurdle been waived? This C64 post was made by a one-timer, and this 4003 post was made by a member with just 14 posts... :?

No, it's just that both had joined before the restrictions were in place...

I think it is absolutely right to restrict the buying and selling areas. We have all seen posts about guitars/basses for sale by people with one or two posts. As stated, this is not a shopping site and as Brian said, it cannot be perfect. This is the only way that our forum can try to give us some protection from scammers. If it puts the odd person off, then maybe they were not joining for the right reasons. To those who are new and understand the policy, welcome, welcome!!

Thank you to Peter and Brian for their efforts at protecting us to the best of their ability.

Speaking as a member with only five posts, you are a very cruel person! :D
