Do women affect you the same way, CJ? How's the wife?

Well, I have to admit it, she did, and we've been together since that first day.
Actually, she's the one that convinced me I really had to buy this. She set the upper limit on the bid and it was
WAY higher than I would have gone...
It's not often you meet a 6' Blond who
makes you buy great Ricks...

Brigitte is far from the type of woman I prefer but she is a 6' blond.

Thanks everyone for all the congrats, comments and ribbing. It's great being a part of this group and knowing others appreciate a beautiful instrument such as this one, and I'm happy to be able to keep it "in the family".
Mostly I have to thank my mom for this bass since it's really a present from her, my last present from her.

You see, my mom passed away last year, April 7. I saw this beautiful bass show up on ebay and thought, "WOW, what a beautiful tribute to the beautiful lady who was my mom!" So you see, it wasn't really just my wonderful wife who made me buy it, she just made me realize it was actually OK to use the small inheritance I got to buy something so trivial as another bass that I really don't need.
So, thanks, John Hall, Kenny, Ben, and all the folks at RIC who made this beautiful bass and decided to offer it for sale at this particular time.
And thanks again mom, for everything you ever did for me! Too bad you'll never get to see this beautiful bass in person.

This bass will always hold a special place for me and really is a fitting tribute to a very special and beautiful lady...

I'll definitely write up a review when I get a chance to play it a bit. Yeah, I know, it's unbelievable that I haven't played it yet

but springtime is always incredibly busy here on the ranch.
First impressions: The neck is great, feels nice and slim. I really need to do some measurements and get 'em into the girth measurement database. As for weight, it feels pretty normal, not super light or super heavy. Unamplified, it seems to have great tone, which means it's likely to be even better amplified!
It may be a bit difficult for me to do a direct comparison to a standard 4003 since I don't have a modern one, other than my FL...

Hey, awesome looking bass you've got there! Congrats!
I would really like to hear how that walnut back combination sounds!
I'm making a bass guitar of my own and I decided to go for black hardware + wood finish after looking at the bird's eye maple BT that came out last year... So you can imagine I really like this one... plus 3 piece neck and walnut wings... it's beautiful!
Congratss!!! And Enjoy!
Cheers!

That's nothing special when it comes to Ric basses.
I really expect that your bass will sound great CJ, especially after getting my '76 fretless in my hands and realizing that that 3-piece neck they used to build was a really great idea. Not only does it stabilize everything but it seems like the tone evens out too. I would sure love if RIC made this 3-piece neck thing a recurring trend in some way or another (4002 reissue please!).
Also, I bet part of the reason why your wife supported this purchase is because I suspect that you let her in on your bass playing passion. Megan used to say, "Uh, you need more than ONE bass?" until I started letting her into my "world" and now she's a full-on RAS-enabler. Congrats on your happy marriage too.
