We understand that there may a disparity between numbers of guitarists, bassists, and drummers which requires some flexibility, but on the other hand, some people just need to learn to sit some numbers out to give others a fair chance.
Amen to that!
We have a few new devices and delegated duties to avert this problem at the upcoming jam. Attendees will be briefed beforehand.

Couldn't agree more, John. I'll be happy to just get up and do one or two - provided I know them. I'll probably be told to "GET OFF" in no uncertain terms after the first one anyway!!

We, the main guys that planned out the event are kind of embarrassed by the fact that some people never got the chance to jam. I was one of the guys who practiced songs to jam with JH. I was even going to play guitar! Some of us hoped that the sign up sheet would help that situation, but for the most part it was ignored. There were plenty of other songs I'd spent time learning that I didn't play, though I personally did get my fair share of playing time in, but that's because there are far less bassists than guitarists in attendance.
Like Paulie said, we are going to try other devices and duties to help avoid the problem.
May I be so bold as to say that MAYBE some of the stage hogs have gotten the drift by now?

Jeff --- seeing that picture of the other Mr. Scott from Star Trek you posted made me think that perhaps hiring a free-lance Tranporter Room Operator

might be a solution to the stage-hog problem, if these other counter-measures don't work !!

whojamfan wrote:Yes, the stage time is really an issue to me. I'm lucky enough to have a gigging band and people to play with on a regular basis, but I know that is not the case for most, for whatever reason. What I really want to see are the folks who don't have an opportunity to play with other folks really get up there and know what it's like to play ith a band. I know so many are bedroom warriors and folks that don't get much of an opportunity to play, and that's who I want to see play, and share in that experience. Those of you who are shy, please get up there and give it a go, you are who we want participating. I would be happy to not play a note all night to know that someone who came a long way and rehearsed a number got to get up there and do it with the fellow forumites. I certainly don't want anybody going home feeling left out, or that there was no opportunity for them to play.
Looking forward to seeing and hearing you all!

see you there, sir!

I've created an event for SCARF '11 on Facebook. If you have a Facebook, please remember to reply so it will help get us a head count. Please also let us know if you intend to bring any guests (friends, family or fellow musicians/bandmates). Thanks!

Sounds like fun, but I'm not going to be able to make it--it's a long drive from up here in the Bay Area. I just had my knee replaced a couple of months ago, and, while it's healing up well, I don't know how it would handle six or more hours in a car. I've been walking without any devices only for a few weeks now--I was using a walker for six weeks after surgery. Thankfully, I don't need it now--my mobility is just about where it was before the surgery, and the knee is pain-free for the first time in about eight years. I expect it to continue improving, and by August it should be even better than it is now, but total healing time for these things is six months to a year, or so I'm told. Is there not going to be a Bay Area Confluence this year?
Well--y'all have fun down there! I don't want to do anything to mess up the knee (or the hip, or the ankle, or everything else that's been sore since I've had to relearn how to walk)--I'm hoping to get into good enough shape to do NAMM in January '12--last time I went was '05. -Jon Fine

Jon, I understand the feeling. I had six and a half months of agonizing gout in my left foot last year...no thanks to "real" doctors, but that's another story.
Glad your healing progress is coming along well. Like Jim said, there's always next year. I highly doubt we'll stop having our annual SCARF. We enjoy them too much to stop!
As far as a Bay Area Confluence this year, I can't say what the folks who put on the one last year are thinking, but I'm pretty sure the same guys from So Cal that attended BARC last year, would gladly show up for another one.

Hey guys.
I will be missing SCARF by 2 days

I am going to Vegas to attend Blackhat and Defcon security conferences this year, I'll be in vegas from July 29th to Aug 7th, I can try and cut the last day and arrive to LA at the night of the 6th, Any chance for a post SCARF minicon on the 7th??? It's very sad for me to miss SCARF but since my work is sending me to these conferences I can't just skip one of them

Gil, let us know when you're coming. I can't say for sure, but there might be a day after SCARF (the 7th) thing going on, like a brunch or whatever. It has been hinted at, but not discussed any length or detail yet. A mini-jam that day might be possible. Even if you came after the weekend is over, a post event mini-jam in the evening is possible during the week. We've done it before because forumites who had traveled from afar were in the area, we'll do it again!
