I'm not sure if it is metallic or not, but when I put my bass against a new one they look identical, dark and shiny. The above bass looks darker to me that Azureglo too, but other photos on that page are lighter but still not as light as the ones I've seen in the past. The ones I remember were pretty light colored, almost a pastel color. Hey, then again maybe I'm crazy.(Woops I meant sanity challenged, I just offended someone in another forum) Peter, you're qualified to assess that aren't you? Haha!

I played an Azureglo 4001 in about '78, and it had red side dot position markers (on the neck binding).

Wow! Pulling a 13-year-old thread out of the bassment!

How rare? Unknown. Except that all 3000 short-scale basses were 21-fret, as were all of the 4002 basses. The rare ones are the few 4001 basses made between 1969 and 1973 that had 21-fret fingerboards, slightly longer necks, and tailpiece/bridge assemblies that were placed farther away from the butt end of the body to ensure intonation. There doesn't appear to be any option for a 21-fret on official order/price sheets of the era, so it is not known by this author how and why these were made. Were they just experiments thrown into the stockpile or were they ordered by and delivered to special customers? Just don't know!

How about posting pictures here of yours? Please?

I agree with Paul - we need some pictures, please.
The 21-fret Burgundy 4001 pictured in Paul's book just about made me wet myself!

Wow, I had a vague memory of having discussions about this years ago, with Sergio Silva and one or two others, but since I sold the bass to Teeder, I hadn't even thought about it. I do have more pics of the bass Teeder now owns(the one on page 20 of Paul's book), but my orange tabby cat always got in the way of the pics(He thought I was photographing him!).
