They was some discussion on the RIC corporate forum that John Hall had narrowed the potential sample of 1965 FG 360 12s to about 5 or 6 based upon shipments by Rickenbacker of that model to the music store in Minneapolis... But the actual SN's involved have never been made public to my knowledge...

It would be nice to know the history of RIC's use of crushed pearl fretboard inlays (CPIs). They appeared on some models in 1961/2 (360-series, to my knowledge) then RIC went back to the "plastic" (for lack of a better term) inlays until the advent of the "new" rounded-top 360-series models in 1964, when CPIs re-appeared and lasted through the early '70s.

I believe that's one of the reasons why the V64 and C63 reissues have the plastic inlays not CPIs -- wouldn't be correct as CPIs are not on CM107.

OK.. This photo shows the jackplate.

Here is a closeup of the jackplate:


My (old) theory . It could be a DK or a DI , this would place it in the right timeframe...
making it a 64 not a 65, hmmm? Unless you think that looks like an E. Either way...interesting.

Never heard about a '66 "caper"...once upon a time? However , Twickenham Studios in '69 ...

Very cool indeed, Greg. All the photos -- and especially the close-ups like the ones showing the crack in the 'guard and the crack coming off the soundhole -- bring this iconic guitar into the realm of the real. It was, for a time, GH's main axe that was played and played again.

Like reaching the holy grail imho..

I have several different versions of that same image (some in higher resolution)... My best guess, based upon the very pixelated images and playing with the contrast in photo-shop is.... ED 774... If you look at the register Rickenbacker was indeed making 360 12's that week....

The other fingerprint could be the wood grain in some black and white photos of George playing it....
The guitar was definitely still around in 1969...
