But in all seriousness, I think CJ said it best, RIC does a lot of research and continually strives to make a better product. UV finishes of worthy mention.

RIC has an environmentally friendly attitude and that is A-OK with me! Damned if you do, and damned if you don't. If RIC used endangered wood, folks would say
it's corporate America raping the landscape again. I find if refreshing that they care enough about the environment to continually strive for improvements in their products
while not having a heavy footprint on the environment.

Okay, not quite 24 hours, but I've unlocked the this thread.
I think this is a nice change at RIC, so I'm hoping the thread will continue in a pleasant manner.
The thread gets re-locked permanently after the first unkind, snide remark or demanding type of statement or question would be made.

Great, because I have a question that may be pertinent to this thread. When did RIC begin using bubinga? Has RIC always used it for fretboards or was bubinga itself a replacement for another type of wood?

IIRC, RIC used padauk before the switch to bubinga-1960s and before?

Not sure about the years, unfortunately...

I thought it was Hong Kong Rosewood through most of the 70's and at least part of the 80's.

At least one '58 325 has a Padauk fretboard, and Lennon's v81 likely does too.

I think it's safe to say that, yes.

I was in my local Ric dealer yesterday and they had some stunning guitars in stock, including a 381 and a brand new 4003. There was no major difference in the look at all. Dunno what all the hubbub is about. Same great looks and quality as before.
