i could swear this also wasn't the original title of the thread i wrote? (i think the original was divided between my two questions about being ready/this specific guitar) but whatever!!

WOW.. buy of the year? good thing it's only april!

well, last night i was looking her over a bit more (my initial inspection could have been a bit more detailed than staring, drooling, playing and a brief cosmetic check for wacky neck) and while obviously this bridge was NOT BABIED and could use at the very least a solid dusting, i noticed the saddle for the d string was like ripped and pushed down? i'm no expert but that don't look right. how the hell does that happen? i assume i gotta fix this. can i just replace the saddle? actually, comparing them to pictures online, they all look a little beat up. will playing like this possibly damage the guitar?

I'll let the experts give a more knowledgable response, but I can't see playing it like this doing any damage. It should be easily cleaned up and saddle replaced. Restringing will be the hardest part!

One other thought, given that it's sat for years and you may not yet have settled on which new strings, the intonation will have to be adjusted on the bridge. Whether you do this yourself or have it adjusted for you, it's a perfect time to clean up the bridge. My 12 came with a bridge that actually had a bit of rust. Soaking in WD-40 and a bit of work with a toothbrush cleaned it right up (but be sure the solvent it completely wiped off!). Yours looks more like dust and may a bit of white corrosion (normal when not kept clean). Should be an easy job and in no way detracts from your excellent find.
