It was positively depressing visiting there...
That guy ****** me off big time. I posted pictures of my new 4003s and all that guy could do is criticize the bass. Here I was all excited about getting the reissue Fireglo 4003s (the bass they showed at NAMM) and it kind of ruined the experience for me. Until it arrived, of course. :)

And don't feel too bad about that bridge rout...They were doing it in the 70's to nice "old" RM1999 basses then!

Andy,

Holy Mother of God!!! That is an RM 1999??? I think I'm going to be sick!!!

I heard from from "doctor Arnquist" last night, v63 arrived yesterday and he says can fix it!! :D :D

Best news I heard all day!!

Yup, old DE 554...that's what happens when you try to offset that negative neck angle, from a '70's perspective!

Good news on the V63...That's a bass that certainly needs to be functional, as well as looking so good. I was tempted by that one!

I don't know who you're talking about (ggoat  ), but the Ignore feature is a very useful feature!

Talk Bass frustrates the heck out of me!! All the ****-slinging there is out of control. The mod staff either do nothing or poke you in the eye depending on who you spar with. Some good people over there but it's not my cup of tea.

Andy, the 84 v63 is in stunning condition!! Like it stored in a time capsule, with high tension strings on her!!! LOL!! There are a bunch of madding little QC issues like the surround being put on off center so that the poles don't line up with the strings. A minor shift and presto, it's perfect. Depended on doctor mark charges for the repair, I may just have him fix all the little things. That or I'll square them away and she'll be a great player. I've already detoured this thread enough. I'll create another thread when she returns.

Please do post restoration fotos of your RM when the project starts!! I love a good restoration project!!

Some of those guys over at the other forum just want to pick a fight when the name Rickenbacker comes up, actually they make a game out of it. I've jumped in on the defense on occasion, but its about like tossing water on a hornets nest. So I just let them buzz. In my opinion, the people who hate Rickenbacker basses just don't know how to set them up properly, and don't want to take the time to learn, they get frustrated, run away, and start pointing at flaws.

Some of those clowns post so much, I wonder how they ever have time to PLAY a bass at all! An armchair is a really comfy place for criticizing anything that anyone, anywhere creates, but the DOING is a little more complicated...

I try (and often fail) to inject a little reason and civility into the Ric discussions on TB. There are legitimate QC and CS complaints at the root of some threads, but, like any public internet forum, the trolls emerge. I don't think it's fair to characterize the entire TB community as Ric-Hostile, any more than it's fair to characterize everyone on RRF as a fanboy apologist for well known QC problems. Most of the QC issues that get the heated discussion are cosmetic in nature, and of themselves not too serious. What's important is how a company, be it Ric, Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, etc. responds to the inevitable manufacturing defects in how it treats it's customers. At the average Ric pricepoint, people expect a very high level of fit and finish, just as they would for a high-end Fender or Gibson. The vast majority get it, but those who don't are likely to be vocal about it! Fairly or not, the general Rickenbacker CS reputation is not good in the wider world. At the tail end of the latest heated Ric thread, I asked TB'ers to post GOOD examples of CS experience with Ric to give a more balanced view. As owners and advocates of a much-loved brand of instruments, perhaps some of you would be willing to wade into that morass and offer examples of good experiences with Ric CS. I've lurked over at Talk Bass for a while and still have yet to create a user profile and use that forum.. Great place for a lot of good Bass info.. After lurking for a while and reading the threads going on over there about RIckenbacker QC issues, I agree- that the TROLL factor as well as the "making it personal over the most microscopic of details" get ridiculous rather quickly. (yawn) ...I am not sure if I would post much on Rickenbackers there anyway...

It's been over 10 years ago, but I have only ever purchased two new and factory sealed Rickenbackers (one being a 4003s5) they were perfect in the QC area and are beautiful instruments (I'm sure a TROLL could find some flaw somewhere) Anyway, the others I've got were used, and any flaws that where there (very few if no QC flaws, mostly just play wear/age) were already pointed out and inspected before I purchased them.. So I knew what I was getting.. I would not be worried about any QC issues on a new one.... I get G.A.S. and get tempted to (buy) that new 4003s I just saw pop up on ebay. But I don't need to, and don't want to because you can only play one at a time, and I've already got my set to keep me busy playing great sounding music with for a long time..

I've had my hears set on a 4003, but since the new "S" model debuted, I'm wavering for one of these. Thinking about a Jetglo model, a Sharpie, and asking Joey to sign the pickguard: JV Signature model. :)
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

"Uh, I like the double bounds. . . ."
