yes the v68 reissue is a great idea ... the v63 and c64 reissues were both s models ... neither had the classic binding and triangular inlays that are ric signature features ...

so it would be similar to a 4003 in that it would have the new neck and truss rods ... but it would be different in that it would have full width neck inlays, and checkered binding, (there are a lot of ric players who are dying to have those two features), and of course walnut headwings, and it would have the v63 pickguard, toaster and reissue horseshoe pickups, and a mono output since stereo was an option and not standard in '68.

List price ... $1795.00 ??? these would definately become collector's items ...

If Ric doesn't have the manufacturing capacity ... then they should stop making guitars and focus on basses ... well that won't happen ...

Jeff,
It's not really too far away from the special basses that went to the Japanese market mentioned in the earlier thread, all I need to know is where to send the money.

I missed the part about the Japanese market ...

Dream on.

The Japanese basses were sold for about $2600 each and even then we didn't make much. This was a quid quo pro deal to offset some situations in their market.

ok ... well ... maybe at least ric can offer a true vintage pickup option on a 4003 ... ie ... horseshoe and toaster .... this would get us part way to the magic 68 bass ...

I know ... starting in 2005 ... all 4003 basses will have walnut headwings, full inlays, checkered binding, mono outputs, and an option for both vintage pickups ...

Well I can dream can't I ...

I don't think that was a thud, just a warm up for a $3000+ price tag if a v68 model ever comes to fruition. Hey, if people are paying $5K+ for Rics that have 1000 units in circulation, why wouldn't Ric build more limited guitars in that price bracket, especially if they could get deposits for them two years in advance?

I don't think that 3k is unreasonable, I'd do it for a Forum custom bass.

Having had an ex wife and many friends that are Japanese, I think I can say the Japanese (in my experience)don't mind premium prices for collectable or perceived collectable items. When I was playing with vintage VW's, all the best most expensive went over there, and prices were subsequently driven up. They are an appreciative market. Perhaps they are rewarded by Rickenbacker for their reverence of the product. Or maybe they're one big Rickenbacker test market.

I don't mind paying the premium as well. As long as it can be established the the bass is unique for us.
