Kent...if you can get KXLU to stream on your computer, you could check Bob's set tonight at midnight (west coast time)...that would probably answer your question better than I could here. It suffices to say that there is a thriving 'noise' scene now, quite underground and being played out in warehouses around the country.

I designed and built our 'temple gate' backdrop...it's painted foamcore pieces on a pvc pipe framework. It breaks down and goes into two cardboard boxes and a canvas bag. It's weight is minimal...it's all that bronze that makes moving a challenge.

Ronn... what does your crew consist of? How much stuff are they setting up?

2 guys set up the fairly large PA, soundboard area, light trees, smoke machines, two guitar amps, bass amp, two keyboard rigs, drum kit, percussion area, guitar tech area, and merch booth.

We can't afford smoke machines, so I just smoke onstage...

Roadies are great, but in 1982, our roadies failed to show up for a gig, then told us a sad tale of the truck having broken down and their sleeping in a ditch. A week later, we found out that they had rented all our gear to another band that night. We stopped using roadies.

holy cow! How low can you go? ..... I bet there are a bunch of roadie_from_hell stories out there.

That's the worst roadie story I have. But back in 1971, Red Dog and the Allman Brothers roadies rescued my fur coat and wallet from some wacko who ran off with it while we were opening for the Allmans. So I guess I'm even. Shall I tell you about the time I got to gig to find our organist had rented out my Acoustic 360 bass amp and replaced it with a Fender Bassman? "I thought you wouldn't mind," he said. I did.

Ronn, what is your opinion of the Phantom guitars and basses? I've been on their site and tempted many times...

I use the smallest amp I can (Fender Blues De Luxe) and travel as light as possible. I fit two of those amps and 3 guitars in my trunk. Having more people around (roadies) would bug me. I am a curmudgeon you know.

I have a Hollowbody Teardrop Bass and a custom, based on the Phantom Bass. John, our rythym guitarist has the Brian Jones Teardrop guitar.
I love mine, I used to own a Vox Mk.IV(the one shown on the Vox Showroom site), I always loved the teardrop shape, it's so 60s. The Hollowbody, mine is white, with white binding, pickups, pickguard, and knobs. Looks nice with the chrome. 32" scale, so it's kinda in between a short and long scale. Tone ranges from Hofner to Dano. Balances fine, well built. After gigging regularly with this bass for 4 years now, I've just had the p/u switch replaced, that's it for problems. When you call you talk to THE guy, Jack. The only downside-no HSC for basses, but the gigbag is teardrop shaped so that's kinda cool.
A few years back I had a wild idea and called Jack, he made me a Phantom Custom bass, 3 pickups, 6-way selector, and(since I'm a lefty and would be playing the bass upside-down)an upside-down logo. It sound like no other bass, love it!
John uses his BJ Teardrop at every show, I guess he likes it.

My worst roadie story was ... wait a minute, I'll get back to you if I ever get a roadie.
