C'mon J.H....give it up. We are the faithful, the chosen ones I dare say. We spread the WORD. We answer questions for those wandering in the wilderness that is Gibson, and Fender. We shed light on the mysteries of the dual truss rods, ohm ratings of the venerable Toaster Top and the secret of the Fifth Knob. Don't we, above all, deserve enlightenment, to hear the GOOD NEWS before all others?(hmm...I'm cupping my palm to my ear and I don't hear anything.....)

Dane, it is past midnight here on the Left Coast.

I don't think it's down to "hearing" anything.

I think it will be "seen" instead...

Over on VoxTalks JH offered this:

"No IPO (are you kidding me?), and absolutely nothing to do with Fender or any other music industry company. But complete this and you will have the answer, or at least you'll know where to look:
Fender is to Hewlett-Packard as Rickenbacker is to _______________."

The best guess at this point is that it's something related to Apple.

Oh Christ! They're gonna do a Brian Moore!!

This must be the fastest growing thread on record. Do you keep stats, Peter?

PS... For those who may be offended, I apologise for my opening remark. Initial reactions being what they are......

I keep wondering how Jeffrey is involved. His profile says he's a photographer, and he's one of the few, the proud, the 4005 owners. Is there a connection?

Well... I seem to remember some TV ad where it was proclaimed that "HP helps Fender" accomplish some aspect or other of their business objectives...

...by extrapolation, I postulate that Rickenbacker will enter into a similar relationship with some computer corporation. The comp guys get to trade off of the Rickenbacker name/reputation/prestige... and in exchange, uh... let's see... um...

...ah, I know...

...the comp guys provide a free MP3 player with every purchase of every new Rickenbacker!Image
My first bass was a Rickenbacker...
My best bass is a Rickenbacker...
My last bass may very well be a Rickenbacker

It has to be something Beatle related. I think you are right, Francesco, about Apple.

I yield, yield! Boy the strain of online torture! For RICs 75th anniversary, they are going to make two very special instruments, a bass model and a guitar model. The bass is, now get this, a 12 string fretless and headless version of the Frying Pan with a very special pickup licenced from Gibson, a recreation of their famous and highly thought of EB humbucking pickup; the guitar will be based upon the most famous guitar in the world, the Fender Stratocaster, in fact it will be a dead knock-off, authorized of course, the only thing giving it away as a RIC is the TRC. The real clincher here is they will be mass produced by the millions in Nepal! Pricing should be competitive with Squier instruments.

Sorry John, I had no choice! Image

Howard: Good point. We might have to coin this as a "Thread Exponential." The flood gates have certainly opened.

The 'second' longest thread will likely be the response to whatever it is we are waiting to find out about, come mid March. That make sense?

It may indeed be Stan. However, the longest thread hands down belongs to the bass enthusiasts in posting photos of their Rickenbacker Basses. I suspect it will be a while before that one is equaled.

So it's an advertisement appearing in those aforementioned publications for a company other than Rickenbacker, featuring a Rickenabacker. My guess is Garage Band or IPod products.
