Pyramids are close in sound to Fenders, they're a little lighter though. They are not as bright as Fenders are when they are new but keep their tone for a long time. They have a very round type of sound, very even, I think their sound is more complex than Fenders, better sounding mid, they are really a nice sounding string and ought to be for the money they cost. I have them on several Rics.

Jeff: I don't want to palm mute all the time, and I just like that old style bass sound. Rounds are also more likely to break than flats. And at the moment I only have 1 bass, and it looks like I am moving from guitar to bass.

Bob: The pyramids sound like the way to go! The fenders do feel stiff, so if the pyramids are lighterfeeling, then that'll be nice.

Thru the years I've broken plenty of both.

I use round wounds and break strings (any) on a regular basis.....that's why I change them before every gig Image

the last time I broke a string was about 1970 ... and I am not gentle with my basses ... I have had 3 ric basses where I popped a string out of the nut ... but the string was still intact ...

"I change them before every gig"

That would get expensive.

Broken an A and a D string...both on my Fretless J Bass...separate incidents. Image

Technically I did break a G on my 4001, but that was when I was young, and stupidly detuned the strings after I played it (didn't know any better then). Eventually the repeated re-tensioning broke the G at the tuning peg, but that wasn't the result of playing stresses.

I've never broken a bass string in 31 years of playing, but I know players that break them all the time.

Ronn,

Great paint job! What did you use for a reference?

I dig the blue pic, too!

Dennis, thanks!
I used the booklet inside the MMT LP, and the Anthology "video" of "Hello Goodbye". As I think I said somewhere, I substituted teal for silver/grey 'cause I liked it better.
