Wise buy, Ray?

It was a no-brainer for most who hang out here, participants and lurkers alike. The toughest thing about it was getting hold of a dealer in time to score one, and we found out that that didn't work for us all, either.

Still, this will find its own level as those whose affection diminishes come to arrangements with those whose desire to own, hasn't peaked yet. Then everyone will have their hearts' desire, and we can finally settle in for a nice long run of appreciating values, because demand for these will eventually be white-hot.

I didn't want to tempt fate so I waited until my DCM was at home safe and sound. Was it worth the wait and the anguish? Damn right it was, she is just stunning. No one has mentioned the fret dressing and neck binding yet. On my bass anyway these are the best frets and neck binding on any RIC that I have ever seen, ever.

What has also blown me away is that straight out of the box the bass is very playable with no setting up whatsoever, that's a first from my experience.

I hope all our friends outside of the US now get their basses.

Picked mine up from Northcoast the day we got back from the MARC in April. Here she is in the back yard by the big ol' spreading Maple:

She's a beauty Paul. I'll bet it looks great next to the mink bass!

A 4003 DCM comes north of the border!

This one isn't going to be a museum piece and is ready for playing. I originally didn't think the neck profile was much different, but after playing my 4003BB and then switching to the 4003DCM, the DCM is definitely slimmer and much more comfortable (IMHO). But... as someone who removes the bridge pickup cover, I would love for RIC to do something about the electric tape like material that the bridge pickup is wrapped in. I anchor my thumb on the bridge pickup and after a couple of hours of playing, the tape is already starting to come loose. Other than that, this bass is a winner. I especially like the adjustable pole pieces on the pickups. Fit and finish is great. Definitely a winner!

Well, as a few more come on the market the price keeps dropping.

The next few months would be a good time to buy.

I agree Andrew. In the short term you should be able to get a 4003DCM at a "decent" price. Once the short term speculators have sold their available basses, supply should dry up and prices increase. I don't see them ever being as valuable as a Lemmy, (due to the uniqueness of the Lemmy), but I could easily envision the 4003DCM steadily trading in the 5K range within a year.

I think that last seller did himself no favors with his two lo res pictures.

Great pictures are worth a lot of $$$ on the bay imho.

I didn't have much time to spend with the DCM last night as I was playing a gig. Had a quick look at her today and yes, the neck is really quite slim. Not as slim as my '72, but that is 60's slim, but as slim as my '73 and a touch slimmer than my '79 S. I'm very happy indeed.

Great! '73 neck profile is a dream to play. Could you post a pic of the headstock?

I'm starting to feel regret for not ordering one.
