I'd have to say staring at Weller's Fireglo 330 on the back cover of "All Mod Cons" is what did it for me. Since my teenage years, I've become more into the bands that influenced the Jam, but we all have to start somewhere dont we?

Welcome to the forum Harry! I have a 660/12 which is just an awesome guitar, and it fits right in with the five RIC basses I have.

Er... welcome, Harley. Those other guys have ******** 'l' keys (too much 'L'ennon and 'L'emmy!!). I know what it's like - I often get 'Harold' and I hate it (mainly because there's a character on 'Neighbours' over here (**** TV if ever there was!) called Harold Bishop and he's a dud!!
I was looking at a 620/12 JG until I found a 660/12 FG - DING!!.... SOLD!!
Hope you enjoy the forum. It's a great place with lots of great (I think) guys and gals who love their Rics. If you've got any questions, they're sure to be answered by very knowledgable people.
Enjoy

It was the Bangles. Even though Susanna Hoffs plays a 350. That was a bit out of my range.

Between Chris Squire & Lemmy, how could you not want the same or similar tone.

Well I know it is 10 days short of a month from when someone posted last but I feel I just have to say something.
My Ric influences are split 50/49/1. Yeah I said 49/1. My first influence was none other than Paul McCartney. When I saw his 4001 in the "Hello Goodbye" video I thought "that thing is freaky looking." Not just the paint job but the shape. He is the 49.
Then came Roger Waters. The first stuff I played on bass was Pink Floyd. I had a P-Bass copy so it fit well with Roger. Then I learned he had a Ric on the first album. Well if it was good enough for him and Paul than it must be a good bass. He is the 1 ('cause he sucks at bass.)
Now the 50. One of my favorite quotes.
"Say Geddy Lee!" He got me wanting one more than ever. One thing that bothered me though was most of the stuff he played with the Ric I had learned before I had a Ric! I got a '76 Jetglo 4001 from ebay and when I plugged the thing in and I nearly soiled my pants. I went through "La Villa Strangiato" drooling to my new sound. When my dad heard it he immediatly thought "Roundabout." I tried to learn that for him but I am garbage with a pick. From then on I won't play a bass that doesn't sound like a Ric. I ordered a custom bass but I said to make it sound like a Ric.

About 15 years ago, right after my husband and I got married, I remember riding in the car and listening to this brand new cassette (it was when we were too broke to have a CD player, LOL)....
I remember commenting to my husband that I just loved the retro-60's jangly sound of the guitars on this album, but I didn't have a clue what they were.... it was long before I ever learned to play guitar! However, my husband, who was a kid in the 60's, knew exactly what that sound was, and after I learned to play guitar he presented me with my very own Rickenbacker 330.... And the rest is history--When he saw how much I loved that guitar, he bought me more Rics, and I love them all! ....that's why I hang out here!

Mike Graffone. Tom Mohawk, Sam and Janet Evening, Rhoda and Phil O. Dendron, Clay Potts, Patty O' Dorr, Curt Reply, etc., etc., etc.
I have a list somewhere with about 200 of these...

That really is his name--though he had it legally changed.... He was the lead singer/guitarist for the 80's Christian punk band, the Altar Boys.... one of the true pioneers of that genre! The band he plays with now is called Clash of Symbols. I think he has a punny way with words....

Who led me to Ric?... John and George of course. But when (at the ripe old age of about 13) I saw George with the new round-edge style 360, a certain group of brain neurons were forever frozen in time.
