I had an Alembic Exploiter/Spoiler with a nice flame Koa top, that was fretless. I should have kept it.

It's all attitude....and there is plenty of it in that tiny package. Besides all he has to do is alert me and I have many "implements" at my disposal.

I've noticed that, in a fight between a cat (not declawed) and a dog, the cat will, 99% of the time, come out on top, by virtue of it's four paws worth of retractable claws on top of it's insane reflexes and agility. Pound for pound, cats destroy. Really. Ask our next-door neighbor's great dane and german shepherd.

Ok, I know I'm late with this but as the owner of 3 Ricks and 1 Alembic I can't help but comment...my Alembic is the most amazing bass I've ever owned, with the possible exception of my previous Alembic (which I had ergonomic problems with). However they don't do what my Ricks do. The Rick is the one bass I feel my Alembic doesn't do a passable impersonation of, so I use them both for different things. Besides, they both make me play differently, and they both look cool in utterly different ways. What I will say is my Alembics have been EASILY the best playing basses I've ever owned/played, and EASILY the best built. I believe you do get what you pay for. Plus, they'll build you pretty much anything that lawsuits don't prevent them from building, although you do have to use their electronics (of which there are several types; you're not just limited to the Series stuff with the power supply or the more basic Spoiler type set up). And they don't have to be heavy; an Essence or Balance K shape can be down to 8 pounds or so. I have played Alembics that are not to my taste, but the same goes for Ricks I've played. What makes an instrument great is not really quantifiable; it's just a matter of taste. However I don't believe there are any finer built basses than Alembic. After saying that I also love my Ricks...otherwise I wouldn't be here....
