Archives, right that was my question. Jeff has always toted out his real '68 at the time as the grail (and it was indeed nice). I'm just remembering a first lively discussion about bringing back the v63 in which I think the V68 was proposed as an alternative along with other models. Really no big deal, I just again would like to think I had a hand in its inception if I end up lucky enough to own one.

And no I did not invent the Internet, although it has had a signifigant inpact on my work productivity, take now as an example!

It was Jeff Rath who proposed a v68 or all of us based on Jeff's bass after JH shot down the idea of a 4005.And JH said the v68 was possibility.

I asked Peter if the information contained in that thread is archived somewhere. It would be interesting to re-read it.

Here is his reply:

"Jeff: I have saved this data for archiving at a later date. It will be somewhat difficult to get this information at this time. It is all I can do to keep up moderating this board at present. I apologize for this situation but I am a team of one!"

So, oh well. I guess we'll have to wait!

Well, if we can't prove it, then I'll say it was my idea!

Oh, and Mr Hall, don't forget I have a nice stack of eastern curly maple "we" can use for a prototype V68!

Here's the first "official" word I could find that the V68/69 (as it was being called then) was a possibility....but I think it went back a little before that.

They are not a limited production item and will be produced as long as there is a market for them. The "V" Series models, however, are to become more of a rotating series with different model representing various eras coming in and going out of the line-up.

That's interesting, Steve. I didn't know that that was the plan with V vs. C series Ricks.

I recall that discussion and that many of us participated. I don't recall who first called the V68. The '68 was selected because we agreed that it was the fullest expression of the 60's 4000 series.

I believe 68 was Rickenbacker's [at least for 4001s]high water mark.

I think I was the first one who called out all of the needed features in that old thread: toaster/horseshoe, full width pearl inlays, check binding, thumbrest, lucite trc, etc.

I don't remember who came up with "V68" though...

I'd be all over a v68 in AFG like stink on poo!

I started this out by saying it's no big deal, but I contend that in the discussion Ted's refering to I coined V68 as a marketing vehicle for these features. A lot of people thought it a great idea and off we went many times refering to Jeff's bass as an example. It seems the stars are finally aligning for us all. I'm stopping now and waiting for the big forthcoming anouncement.
