Oh, someone's gonna get it Tuesday!
Really though, I think I even remember this one and I let it go because it was on the packing table... A rare '06 one like this!

Ben is there any chance of you guys going back to the old dot scheme or at least putting the dots right on the notes rather than in between for the fretlesses? The dots on my new one are driving me crazy. Actually I like the 3rd 5th 7th etc but not between the notes.

Ben, not that it matters, however, I removed a tuner and scraped away the paint a tad on my BB FL... Maple wings on that head stock too.

Well that I can explain. I had woodshop use up some old 4003 maple ears they cut a long time ago on the solid colors. Maple is a heck of a lot more sympathetic to our solid colors and lacquer than walnut!

Thanks for your response Ben. I appreciate you taking the time.
I'm just trying to figure out how many 2006 Monty Brown's were produced with all the new options. My 2005 Monty was delivered in December (but manufactured in August), so it didn't have any of the 2006 features.
The neck on that bass HAD to have been some kind of anomaly. I've owned 5 late model 4003 basses and the neck on the 2005 Monty was THICKER than any other 4003 I've ever owned IMHO. Forgive my lack of knowledge on the topic, but I don't know any of the details involved in the manufacturing process, if the necks are machined or hand sanded, but is the process so uniform that ALL the necks on a particular model are insured to be EXACTLY uniform?
My 2006 Monty is one of the sweetest playing basses I've ever owned. It is very similar in sound to my 4001CS. I don't know if it is the toaster that makes such a huge difference, but it is amazing. It is LOUD, clear and rings out like a piano.
Thanks again for your post Ben. I'd just like to know how rare my sweet Monty actually is. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it would be a sweet little nugget to tell while bragging about my bass.

I know 4003 necks have been bigger the last maybe five years but I couldn't tell you that we have purposefully changed the neck within the past couple of years. The necks are machine carved and hand shaped/sanded and undergo rigorous hand sanding prior to finishing. Perhaps the neck on yours didn't get sanded as heavily as others and was ok to finish as such.
As far as how many Monty Browns were made with the new options, not too many. I don't have the exact count but we're talking less than 30. As far as the sound goes, well, the wood and construction have a lot to do with that too!
If you have any more questions... fire away!

Thanks Ben,
Wow, that was a FAST reply!
That's too cool. Apparently, my Monty is a rare one. NOT as rare as Joey's, but rare enough for me!
Joey, congratulations on your rare 06 indeed!
Thanks also for clearing up the neck issue for me. I know I'm getting old, but I just couldn't figure out how the whole neck thing worked out. I envisioned a huge machine just pumping out necks one after the other.
"If you have any more questions... fire away!"
Ben, that is a temptation I don't know that you could fully appreciate. It's kind of like being granted 3 wishes, and I know you can't ask for more wishes.....can I get a rain check?

I'm off to my Sunday morning "gig", time to get my Monty and run...
Thanks again!

For the BB FL, I had hopes of doing a sort of BB Chris Squire LE look, with exposing the walnut wings on the head stock.
After talking with Paul W., he will perform (that I think to be), a much more difficult modification.
He now walks where others have failed.
I cannot wait to get it back>>>>>

Didn't you just pickup a HS p/u? Do tell...how about another hint?

I gave out too many hints already.
A one of a kind for sure, once Paul is finished.
All will be revealed in the Fall time.
