Strangely enough, I am talking to Howard about yet another collaboration. Again it will be one of my songs but this time from my favorite genre. The blues. I have a bed track finished and I intend to send that to Aitch so he can record his parts. This can only happen when I get some spare time.

The reality of my work schedule is that song probably won't be ready until next January or February.

I have enough songs recorded now or far enough along to put together a fairly good cross section of some old classics combined with some of my tunes sometime next year. The question is for me is are they good enough for release on a CD.

I am my own worst critic, so as you may have guessed, I keep saying no, they are not good enough.

I am afraid your faith in the quality of my music has been blinded by our sincere bond of friendship. I am humbled by your opinion never the less.

I don't think Aitch is "blinded" at all.... Brian, I think your music is better that a lot of the stuff that gets plenty of radio play, LOL!

My eyesight is pretty average, Brian, but I have 20/20 hearing. You know that I always enjoy the clips you send me and I admire your ability - both as a musician and a songwriter.

So don't give me any of that "blinded" ****! OK???

Nice. Photographs kinda remind me of the works of one of my favorite artists, Tom Fogerty (that's a compliment). Like the bass lines on both.

I was hoping to hear from some of the professional musicians and producers on the forum to get their view.

Here's the link again if you are able to offer me any advice about making my stuff better from a technical or musical perspective and perhaps more marketable. I am all ears.

Oh by the way, my earlier comments are just me, an average, interested Forumite - not a professional musician or producer ! Brian, can you clarify, on this Remix of "Nothing Ain't Real" did you over dub or change any of the instruments listed on Sheena's original posting in this thread announcing the ICBM band ? If so, can you kindly indicate the instruments changed or substituted, for those of us paying attention to the details ? Thanks - Rich F.

First, let me thank you on behalf of Howard and I for the very kind comments and your interest in our very first ICBM collaboration.

With respect to your question I did use an additional instrument on the feedback in the opening stanza. That particular instrument is my MIJ 1962 RI Fender Stratocaster. Why did I use that guitar? It was in my hands at the time that I came up with the idea.

The vocal tracks on the remix were double tracked.

The drums were placed higher in the mix and a small amount of reverb was added to make them sound more analogue. The bass line was compressed and the level boosted to provide greater separation in the mix. The guitar solo tag at the end was boosted in the mix and a small amount of reverb added.

Levels of some parts were boosted as the mix progressed and then the levels were returned to their previous dynamic level.

Last but not least the rhythm part was boosted to fill the gaps created by the new mix.

Unfortunately not all of these nuances are readily apparent to those who listen to the song on MySpace.

This proved to be a difficult song to mix with (a) my limited production knowledge and (b) the limited technology of my home studio.

Well, i'm not a pro either, just a thought - i had a feeling flute may be a nice addition to a song like "Photographs". As i said, just a suggestion, perhaps based on personal preferences.

Hello Brian and Aitch: thanks for the details of the remix posted the other day.

While waiting for the ICBM Band to "release" your own CD as was suggested, is it possible to Download your "Nothing Ain't Real" tune from MySpace so I can burn it onto a disc for enjoying in my car, especially since I recall you guys saying on your posts that the volume needed to be turned up, which is not possible on my computer here at work.

I don't know anything about MySpace or its processes, but when I checked the Temporary Internet Files on my computer it did not show a recognizable file (at least for my limited technical knowledge) for "Nothing Ain't Real" that I could copy.

Let me apologize ahead of time, if my inquiry here is out of line. I certainly don't want to cross any boundaries, if you are not sharing your nice music in a downloadable/copy format - and I certainly respect musicians sentiments about people taking advantage of such technology.

Or will this tune (or any other ICBM collaborations) be "released" on the forthcoming Forum CD ?
