Would YOU refinish this Mar 72 immediately?

By the way, yes I have heard that having KC 012 does not mean that it was the twelfth bass made in March 1971. It just means that when someone grabbed a jackplate out of the KC box-of-the-month to finish wiring the bass, it happened to have 012 on it, yes?

Paul,
I hadn't checked into this thread for awhile, I was just repeating what I've heard over and over again from those who are lucky enough to own 50s era Fenders Gibsons, and Ricks. The bass IMHO looks good enough to leave alone, it looks better than my '71, so that is what I was basing it on. As for my spelling of Catastrophe, well I KNEW how to spell it all along, just ask my 3rd grade teacher (if she is still alive!). I was just in a rush to post...

That said, however, I am IN AWE of the work that you and Dale have been showing off on this site since I starting visiting again about a month ago, and I would like to find out what it would cost to have my '73 worked on like that. My email is in my profile.... Thanks!

Paul W,
You have to realize that when I stopped visiting/posting here about 2 years ago, there didn't seem to be anyone who could do the things that you and Dale were doing, putting crushed pearl inlays into Ricks, redoing checker bindings, etc. Major surgeries(sp) that just didn't seem possible back in my day. Back then, we were just glad if we found a 72 or earlier bass with a finish that wasn't too ripped up...and we were GLAD to get it... I was just putting in my 2 cents. I'm really not as obnoxious as I sound... I'm just a caveman, your fancy pearl inlays dazzle and confuse me with their shiny -ness....

Elys: don't get your hopes too high hehehe.
Regarding the number on the jackplate, yes, I believe your reasoning is right.
Right now you're flanked by two 21 fretter owners - me and...

Your modern technology frightens and confuses me. Are there demons in your fax machine?

Don't you know it's the demons that pull the paper through the machine ... when the demons get angry or annoyed they tear the paper up.
