So let's all remember for the future: Guitars started shipping with small headstocks in April '07.

Oops I meant to respond to Daniel, not Chris.

Chris: the new 12-string headstock started shipping in the second half of '06. There are a lot of them about. They look sweeeet.

Thanks, J. Oliver!

Are you talking about the fully slotted through 12 headstock? I have a 360/12 in MB with that headstock - I'll check the s/n.

Thanks Oliver - just to clarify though, the new 12-string headstocks are slimmed down, slightly tapered '60's-style (as opposed to the fatter, post-'60's dimensions)? I've seen ones with the fully slotted headstocks, which I quite like, but I couldn't recall if they were also of a different shape.

From eBay - '07 is on the top, '97 on the bottom. The '97 does look a little more bloated to me.

Thanks very much for the comparison pics, Daniel. The newer headstocks look much better, IMHO - noticeably slimmer along the tuners and less bloated towards the nut. Cool!

Good comparison shots. Originally I was talking about the recently redesigned 6-string headstocks. But yeah, the 12-string headstocks for all but the C and V-series Ricks are now slot-through. I hadn't noticed any slimming of the new 12-string headstocks but Daniel's comparison shots would seem to indicate otherwise. Regardless, I really like the slot-through design and the vintage-style 6-string headstock design. IMHO they're very nice changes, JH & Co.

I agree - all these headstock changes are great!
